• Each line has a definite pattern of syllables.
• There are other variations of the cinquain, but
  they usually follow this pattern.

• 4 syllables describing the topic
• 6 syllables showing action (-ing
• verbs)
• 8 syllable phrase showing feeling
• 2 syllables renaming the topic (synonym)
