Title: Where Did I Come From

1
Where Did I Come From?
  • Koinonia Series on Worldviews
  • April 27, 2007

Adapted from Colson Warrens Wide Angle
Framing Your Worldview
2
4 Test Questions of Life
  • Where did I come from?
  • Why is the world a mess?
  • Whats the solution?
  • Who am I ( what do I do now)?
  • ? Which worldview best matches reality?

3
Where do we start?
  • From dustTo dust?
  • Only a natural process?
  • Through random mutations?
  • ? Then, were merely a purposeless accident of
    atoms colliding

4
Charles Darwin
  • 1859 Origin of Species
  • Theory for variation within species
  • 1871 warm little pond, with all sorts of
ammonia and phosphoric salts, lights, heat,
electricity, etc. present, so that a protein
compound was chemically formed ready to undergo
    still more complex changes.
  • ? Any scientific evidence??

5
Not So Fast
  • Only simplest amino acids produced as reaction
    continued, got destroyed
  • UV radiation on early earth
  • destroys ammonia (NH3)
  • converts methane (CH4) to hydrocarbons
  • Hydrogen (H2) escapes into the atmosphere
  • Recent studies show early earth only had nitrogen
    (N2), carbon dioxide (CO2), water ? Completely
    different starting materials

6
And the fine point
  • all living species have been connected with the
parent-species So that the number of
intermediate and transitional links, must have
been inconceivably great. Charles Darwin, The
    Origin of Species
  • ? So, we should be able to find many fossils of
    these many intermediates

7
No Bones About It!
  • But we lack intermediate fossil records
  • We are now about 120 years after Darwin and the
knowledge of the fossil record has been greatly
expanded. We now have a quarter of a million
fossil species, but ironically, we have even
fewer examples of evolutionary transition than we
had in Darwins time. Dr. Raup U. of Chicago
    Field Museum of Natural History

8
Doubting Darwinism
  • Cambrian explosion
  • Suddenly, lots of species!
  • No new species
  • Altruism/good deeds
  • We shouldnt care, but evolutionists do

9
If Survival of the Fittest
  • Then, get rid of people who are useless
  • e.g., Nazi euthanasia program
  • This person suffering from hereditary
defects costs the community 60,000 Reichsmark
during his lifetime. Fellow Germans, that is
    your money, too.
  • ? But every person is precious!

10
Plus, Intelligent Design
  • The Origin of Species, Charles Darwin
(1809-1882) If it could be demonstrated that
any complex organ existed which could not
possibly have been formed by numerous,
successive, slight modifications, my theory would
    absolutely break down.
  • ? Now science reveals complexity!

11
Molecular Machines!
  • A Rotary NanoMachine Understanding the
Structure and Dynamics of Bacterial Flagella
Japan Nanonet Bulletin Feb. 5, 2004

Change of Flight
  • Dr. Anthony Flew Wrote books on atheism!
  • My whole life has been guided by the principle
of Platos Socrates Follow the evidence,
    wherever it leads.
  • In 2004 It has become inordinately difficult
even to begin to think about constructing a
naturalistic theory of the evolution of that
    first reproducing organism.
  • Now, this former atheist believes in God!

14
God-created life has
  • Sanctity
  • Is sacred, should not be trashed
  • Destiny
  • Should not be random purposeless
  • Dignity
  • Treat one another with respect
  • Eternity
  • Eternal worth value

15
Start to Finish
  • Just nature
  • Random chance
  • Purposeless
  • Worthless
  • Despair
  • God
  • Intentionally designed
  • For a purpose
  • Worth for everyone
  • Hope

16
Then why stick w/ Darwin?
  • Because getting rid of God
  • justifies our morality
  • we can be our own God.
  • Point of divergence
  • Going back to Adam Eve
  • 1st Commandment You shall have no other gods
    before me.
  • Sin Im going to be god

17
Next Week
  • Where did I come from?
  • Why is the world a mess?
  • Whats the solution?
  • Who am I ( what do I do now)?
