Flash Tools
The Pencil tool offers several line options
Straighten This is if you want to draw very
straight lines by freehand. Your lines "snap"
straight after you finish drawing your stroke.
Smooth Your lines will automatically be smoothe
d while retaining the basic shape you intended to
create. Ink This option leaves your line qual
ity unaffected. This is great for freehand or
loose-style drawings.
The Brush tool offers several subselections
Paint Normal Paints over lines and fills on the
same layer Paint Fills Paints inside a fill c
olor and outside of a shape Paint Behind Paint
s behind existing fills and strokes
Paint Selection Paints inside a selected fill
only Paint Inside Keeps you from going outside
the lines after you start painting inside a fill

5
Caution on Selecting
Only the inside of the circle is selected
Only the outside/outline of the circle is selected

Merged Drawing
Drawing a shape over an existing shape merges the
shapes together, causing one to cut into the
other. This is called merged drawing. This mode
can be useful for cutting into shapes to create
new shapes.
Layers let you place new artwork while preserving
any and all artwork below or above it. Each time
you draw a new shape or a group of new shapes,
you should add a new layer. You can add as many
layers as you want.
Object Drawing is a new feature in Flash 8. It
lets you draw shapes as individual objects that
remain independent of each other. Shapes drawn
cannot be merged with other shapes. This is
useful in situations where you may want to
reposition objects or simply need to keep them
independent.

Vector DrawingVector Points
Draw a rectangle
Holding down the ALT key, click and hold your
cursor where you want your vector point to be. If
a small icon of two lines forming a right angle
appear, you did it properly. You can then drag
the vector point to wherever you want.
8
Vector DrawingCurving and Shifting
Draw a rectangle
To curve a side, just place your curser over the
side of our rectangle you want to curve, click
and drag it where you want.
Click and drag the corner of whatever you want to
shift.

Tweening
  • The term "Tweening" is derived from "in between".
    It simply means going from
  • one keyframe to another while taking small steps
    for each of the ordinary
  • frames in between.
  • Sometimes you want to add an effect that is
    graduated over several frames
  • such as moving a car from the left side of the
    movie to the right side.
  • Instead of moving the car a little bit on each
    frame, you can simply
  • position the car on the first frame,
  • then insert a keyframe where the car should
    stop
  • and finally tell Flash to tween between the two
    keyframes.
