Gene Krantz - In many ways we have the young
people, we have the talent, we have the
imagination, we have the technology. But I don't
believe we have the leadership and the
willingness to accept risk, to achieve great
goals. I believe we need a long-term national
commitment to explore the universe. And I believe
this is an essential investment in the future of
our nation and our beautiful, but
environmentally challenged planet.

Aware
Flower, star of Animal Planet's popular series,
Meerkat Manor, is survived by loving mate Zaphod
and many children including Mozart, Mitch,
Buster, Suggs and Izzy. Flower leaves behind a
devastated meerkat mob now without its fearless
leader. From humble beginnings, she created one
of the largest, most close-knit families on the
Manor. Affectionately referred to as the
"Kalahari Desert Rose" by those who knew her
best, she was a formidable leader and a noble
mother.

Fossil excavation
Dart - Darwin has said, "no country in the world
abounds in a greater degree with dangerous beasts
than Southern Africa," and, in my opinion,
Southern Africa, by providing a vast open country
with occasional wooded belts and a relative
scarcity of water, together with a fierce and
bitter mammalian competition, furnished a
laboratory such as was essential to this
penultimate phase of human evolution.

Work the problem backwards
Wing Commander Gibson, whose personal courage
knew no bounds, was quickly recognised to be an
outstanding operational pilot and leader. He
served with conspicuously successful results as a
night bomber pilot and also as a night fighter
pilot, on operational tours. In addition, on his
"rest" nights he made single-handed attacks on
highly defended objectives such as the German
battleship Tirpitz. Wing Commander Gibson was
then selected to command a squadron formed for
special tasks. Under his inspiring leadership
this squadron executed one of the most
devastating attacks of the war - the breaching of
the Moehne and Eder dams. Wing Commander Gibson's
aircraft made the initial attack on the Moehne
dam. Descending to within a few feet of the
water, he delivered his attack with great
accuracy. He then circled very low for thirty
minutes, drawing enemy fire and permitting as
free a run as possible to the following aircraft.
He repeated these tactics in the attack on the
Eder dam. Throughout his operational career,
prolonged exceptionally at his own request, he
has shown leadership, determination and valour of
the highest order.

Human error
Pavlov - While you are experimenting, do not
remain content with the surface of things. Don't
become a mere recorder of facts, but try to
penetrate the mystery of their origin.

22Pareto
Prioritization
Pareto - Above, far above the prejudices and
passions of men soar the laws of nature. Eternal
and immutable, they are the expression of the
creative power they represent what is, what must
be, what otherwise could not be. Man can come to
understand the he is incapable of changing them.
