  • The island of Oahu spans over 600 square miles
  • The HFD manages the island by dividing the island
    into five battalions

  • 42 Fire Stations, a fireboat facility, and an
    aircraft hangar are strategically placed to
    provide services to the community

2008 Significant Events
  • On September 4, 2008 in the early evening, HFD
    received a call for assistance in a USCG
    helicopter crash five miles offshore of Honolulu
    International Airport
  • Within the first hour, HFD deploys resources and
    recover the bodies of three of four crew members
  • HFD joins a multi-agency search effort for the
    fourth crew member
  • Over the course of three days, a systematic
    search covers an area of 3000 square miles
  • The helicopter crash claims the lives of three
    members and the fourth member is never found

  • HFD has received an annual grant award since 2002
