  • This year marks the 150th anniversary of district
    nursing
  • In 1859 William Rathbone a Liverpool
    philanthropist hired a nurse (Mary Robinson) to
    care for his sick wife at home
  • After her death William Rathbone retained Marys
    services and asked her to help him set up a nurse
    home visiting service for the poor sick of
    Liverpool

  • With the help of Florence Nightingale William
    Rathbone set up a nursing school specifically to
    train nurses in the 18 districts of Liverpool
  • This is how district nurses got their name

DN150 fundraising event
  • We are aiming to raise 150,000 to celebrate 150
    years of district nursing and to ensure we can
    continue to support nurses working in the
    community who currently care for 2.6 million
    people every year
  • As part of our DN150 fundraising we are looking
    for volunteers to take part in a sponsored 10K
    run
  • You will join over 26,000 runners walking,
    jogging or running through the centre of London

  • All we ask is our volunteers raise 150 each on
    the day
  • The run will take place on Sunday 12th July 2009
  • The registration fee is 30 which includes
    everything you will need for the event including
    fundraising tips, QNI materials, information for
    the day itself and a QNI T-shirt to run in and
    support, advice and ideas from training right
    through to the day itself

2020 vision document
  • As part of the DN150 celebrations we have
    released a new publication entitled 2020 Vision
  • This follows on from our work on Vision and
    Values and specifically looks at the future of
    District Nursing
  • When developing this publication we involved
    district nurses from around the UK through
    consultation groups and a questionnaire in the
    BJCN (British Journal of Community Nursing)

    successes and rich history of district nursing
    and be clear that district nursing has a vital
    part in the future of nursing in the home
  • You can receive a copy of the document by
    visiting our website and completing an order

  • The publication is free of charge but we welcome

    minimum of three years
  • All nurses committed to high standards of care,
    learning and leadership
  • All nurse that want to continue to demonstrate
    that commitment throughout their career

    quality of your community practice
  • Entitle you to be a part of our Queens Nurse
    network

    community nursing

How to become A Queens Nurse
  • Go to the QNI website www.qni.org.uk
  • Complete an electronic copy of the application
    form and submit together with hard copy
  • The application will include areas such as
    qualifications, your role, and professional
    development you have undertaken
  • You will need to submit three reflective analyses
    to support your application
  • You will also need to provide us with two peer
    references, two patient references and one from
    your manager
