Lai Bai
  • Name pronounced Li Po or Li Bo
  • Called the Poet Immortal, Li Bai is often
    regarded, along with Du Fu, as one of the two
    greatest poets in China's literary history.

    striking Taoist imagery in his poetry

Book of Songs
  • Tradition holds that the first emperor of the
    Chou dynasty dispatched emissaries to the feudal
    principalities to bring back songs of the common
    people because the emperor wanted to gain insight
    into his subjects lives. The Book of Songs was
    created from the thousands collected.
  • The songs express practical and heartfelt
    concerns with poignant simplicity. The
    predominant theme of The Book of Songs is,
    according to Confucius, to keep the heart
    right.
