• Describe
• 1. Despereaux is a tiny mouse born with his eyes
  open, large ears, and who does not like things
  other mice like.
  
• 2. Chiaroscuro, or Roscuro, is a deceptive rat
  that loves the light and is seeking revenge.
  
• 3. Miggery Sow, or Mig, is an abused servant girl
  that wishes to become a princess.
  
• Other mice thought Desperaux was a useless law
  breaker because he talked to a person and does
  not search for scraps of food like normal mice.

• This story takes place in a castle and its
  surrounding land.
  
• It is possibly in a medieval time period because
  there are kings, queens, and castles.

Plot Line

• Exposition
• 1. Despereaux is born and grows up in the castle
• 2. Since Gregory, the jailer, lit a match in
  Roscuros face he longs for light
  
• 3. Mig is sold into slavery and constantly gets
  clouts to the ear in the country side
  
• Rising Action
• 1. Despereaux falls in love with the princess and
  is sent to the dungeons for breaking the laws
  
• 2. Roscuro travels up stairs into the castle and
  is caught hanging from a chandelier. He lets go
  and fells into the queens soup, then the queen
  died.
• 3. Mig is taken to the castle to work there.

Plot Line

• Climax
• Roscuro tricked Mig into helping him with his
  evil schemes of revenge, while Despereaux is eves
  dropping under a napkin on a tray. They kidnap
  the princess during the night.

• Despereaux saves the princess from the evil
  plans

• 1. Despereaux and the princess become best
  friends
  
• 2. Roscuro was given permission to go from the
  dungeons to the castle
