Saturn
Saturns Meaning In Greek mythology, Saturn was
the god of agriculture, he was called Cronus, by
the Greeks. Saturn is the farther of Jupiter and
the son of Uranus. Saturn threw away his
fatherhood to become king of the gods, but was
then beaten himself, by his own son, Jupiter.
Saturn's rings were found famous, until
astronomers discovered that Neptune and Jupiter
have slight rings to. Satrun was first visited by
pioneer 11, a robot, in 1979.
Galielio was the first to observe Saturn and its
odd rings, with a telescope, in the year 1610. He
thought that its appearance was confusing. In
1659 Christian Huygens studied the geometry of
the rings.

Saturn 2
  • 120,536 kilometers in diameter around the
equator. Its the second largest in solar system.
Its takes Saturn 10 hrs and 14 min to complete
one rotation on its axis. Because Saturn is quite
flat compared to other planets, this results in a
speedy movement. The northern hemisphere of
Saturn is at the moment a beautiful blue colour.
  • Saturn is the least dense of all of the eight
planets. Its gravity is 0.7 less than water. In
the unlikely event that a large enough ocean
could be found, Saturn would float in it. There
are traces of water, methane, and ammonia.
Saturns inside contains many layers. Saturns
    core is extremely hot.
  • Saturn has 34 satellites (moons) that have been
named, but there are more that havent been named
or discovered, yet. The wind blows at an
extremely high speed, near the equator it reaches
1,100 miles an hour. The wind mainly blows in an
east direction. Saturn is made up of 97 hydrogen
and 3 helium. Its average cloud is -125 degrees
    Celsius.

Saturn's Rings
Saturn's rings make the planet one of the most
beautiful objects in the Solar System. The rings
split into a number of parts, which include the
brighter A and B rings and the fainter C ring.
The rings have various gaps all over them,
because they are made out of rocks and icy
objects. The gap separates the A and B rings. In
1675, Giovanni Cassini discovered the gap between
the two rings. The gap which splits the A ring is
called the Encke Division and is named after
Johann Encke, who discovered it in 1837. It is
thought that the rings may have been formed from
larger moons that were shattered by impacts of
larger comets and meteoroids. Scientists think
that the rings contain a certain amount of water.
There may be icebergs and/or snowballs from a few
centimeters to a few meters in size.

Moons
Saturn has an estimation of an amazing 33 moons.
Some of which are bigger than Earths only moon.
Saturn's many moons consist of Pan, Atlas,
Prometheus, Pandora, Epimetheus, Janus, Mimas,
Enceladus, Tethys, Telesto, Calypso, Dione,
Helene, Rhea, Titan, Hyperion, Iapetus, Phoebe,
S/2000 S 1, S/2000 S 2, S/2000 S 3, S/2000 S 4,
S/2000 S 5, S/2000 S 6, S/2000 S 7, S/2000 S 8,
S/2000 S 9, S/2000 S 10, S/2000 S 11, and S/2000
S 12. There are millions and millions of other
moons that either havent been discovered or
named yet.

Titan
  • Titan was discovered by Christopher
Huygens in 1655. Titan is also the largest moon
orbiting Saturn, the second largest in our Solar
System. In diameter, Titan is larger than both
Mercury and Pluto put together. Its atmosphere
is far thicker than Earths. Unfortunately,
scientists dont know much about this moon,
because they haven't been able to get through the
think clouds to the surface. The temperature on
Titan is about minus 178 degrees Celsius. Titan
is of great interest to scientists because it is
the only moon in the solar system known to have
clouds and a mysterious, thick, planet-like
atmosphere. Titan is 1,221,850 km from Saturn.
Titan is crowed by a hazy, orange atmosphere. The
clouds are made from Nitrogen, with traces of
other molecules. They form a thick fog,
disguising the surface, making it appear the
orange shade it is. The only way to see what lies
behind the clouds, is to visit it on your own.

Rhea and Iapetus
  • Rhea is the second largest of Saturns
Moons. In Greek mythology Rhea was the wife of
Saturn, and the mother of Jupiter, Neptune and
Pluto. Rhea was discovered by Giovanni Domenico
Cassini in 1672. Iapetus which was also
discovered by Cassini, is another as Saturn's
moons, made entirely of ice. Iapetus was
discovered a year before Rhea, in 1671. Most of
Saturns moons orbit on the same path, the path
of the planets equator. Iapetus, unlike all the
other moons, doesnt follow the same path as all
the others. Instead, its Orbits Saturn from top
to bottom. In mythology Iapetus was the son of
Uranus. Rhea is 527,040 km from Saturn and
Iapetus is 3,561,300 km from Saturn.

Solar System and Space
You know how when your on Earth, you can just
look into the distance and eventually it will
fade from yours eyes view. Well its not like that
in space. In space you will look out and it may
seem like your looking into complete, black
nothingness, but really you are looking out into
a beautiful black wonderland. All you can see is
stars, planets, rocks and other heavy bodies
orbiting through the magnificent, black
background, that transforms it into what looks
like a piece of art work, so wonderful and
interesting it almost blinds you with its beauty.
When your looking down at Earth and its just a
tiny speck, you will feel so amazed and
horrified, realizing that it really is quite
small compared to our Solar System, our galaxy
and the rest of outer space. In our tiny part of
the Solar system, which is place in the right arm
of our galaxy, there are 8 planets, one mayor
star, dwarf planets, asteroids and meteors,
comets and all the surrounding moons. The planets
go in order from the sun, hottest to coldest,
here they are Mercury, the closest to the Sun,
Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and
Neptune, the blue planet and the furthest planet
from the Sun.

Where is Saturn
Saturn is the 6th planet in the Solar System. Its
sits in-between Jupiter and Uranus. Saturn is
estimated to be around 890 million miles away
from the sun and 793 million miles away from the
Earth. Saturn is about 9.5 time further from the
sun than the Earth his, yet it still gets lots of
heat and light from the sun. Saturn is almost
twice as far away as Jupiter is from the sun.
Saturn can not be seen in the sky, any time, any
month because it rises with the sun, and sets
with the sun, because it is on the other side of
the Solar System.
