The Speech Communication Track
  • The Speech Communication track enables students
    to acquire knowledge about the complex dimensions
    of human communication, and the skills to
    succeed in the modern world of human interaction.
  • It helps students develop the communication
    competencies required for a near limitless
    variety of work experiences, but also prepares
    them for advanced graduate work in Speech
    Communication.

  • The Mass Communication track enables students to
    acquire knowledge about media technologies and
    the skills to use them.
  • It prepares students for work in the
    communications industry and/or graduate work in
    Mass Communication.

MASS COMM TRACK COURSES
  • Note that COMM 205 and COMM 210 are prerequisites
    for most 300/400 level courses in Mass
    Communication.
  • These two courses provide a general background in
    Mass Communication that is necessary for advanced
    study.

PRACTICUMS AND INTERNSHIPS
  • Some Mass Communication courses function as
    practicums. A practicum is defined as a course on
    campus where students acquire hands-on
    experience. Courses such as Media Production,
    Media Writing, Audio Production I and II, and
    Video Production I and II fall into this
    category.
  • Students will also have the opportunity to
    participate in internships in business and media
    organizations to acquire hands-on experience and
    professional contacts. COMM 410 and COMM 420
    provide the student with internship
    opportunities.

    to work with FSU media outlets
  • WFSS FSUs public radio station
