- CLAIMING/PURSE STAKE HIGHLITES
92005 HIGHLIGHTS
- New Paddock Grandstand renovation completed _at_
Northlands in time for opening day. - HRA is in negotiations with the Alberta
Government regarding future gaming revenue. Our
current arrangement expired March/05 with a one
year extension to renegotiate. Rather than
remaining status quo, HRA prefers a more
desirable deal to foster continued growth for the
industry. In 2004, economic impact of horse
racing in Alberta was 355m. - Northlands has been allocated an additional 125
Gaming Terminals (Jan 2006). - Northlands plans are to expand the track to 7
furlongs subject to rezoning and financing.
102005 HIGHLIGHTS (contd)
- The HRA Marketing Program pertaining to
television continues to receive National
accolades. - Northlands continues to work on the sale of our
signal to other jurisdictions added Northern
California in 2005. It was suggested that HBPA
take a more active role in marketing our signal.
We are also working on getting more exposure on
Bell TRN WEST (CH. 477) where we air only on
Wednesday nights during the meets. - Decreases in simulcast wagering in the Edmonton
area was disappointing. Northlands main market
are the California tracks. Inclement winter
weather and short fields were largely to blame
for the downturn. Northlands no longer has live
TAB Operators servicing the Edmonton market
making it extremely cumbersome to wager via
telephone. - Northlands is pleased with the results of
wagering through HPI.
11CALGARY AREA RACING FACILITY UNITED HORSEMEN
OF ALBERTA (UHA)
- Progress is slow but steady. There is a sign!!
- The MD of Rockyview who have been positive and
enthusiastic about the Project all along,
approved the redesignation of land use from
farming to commercial. Permits are in place
soil core samples are being taken, planning of
surrounding infrastructure (roads, overpasses,
utilities) is moving forward. - Project continues to have challenges such as
escalating costs and the need to raise additional
funding. On a positive note, the land has become
valuable and desirable. Currently negotiating
with a major investor who will develop a Shopping
complex with a Horse Park theme on a portion of
the property. - There are timing challenges with the Project due
to the fact that the scope has changed. Even
though the Project is in start up mode the
projected April, 2007 start up date for this
facility is doubtful. Contingency plans are
currently being negotiated with Stp.
