Quiz Standards
  • Quizzes final exam will begin on time
  • You must be at your desk ready (or you will be
    using your own test time)
  • You will be provided 1 - 1.5 minutes per test
    question (I will let you know at the beginning of
    the test how much time is allotted)
  • Persons requiring extra time for tests must bring
    a DSP form
  • All personal items are to be deposited at a
    prescribed area before the test will begin
    nothing but pencil scantron
  • All required information must be completed on
    scantron for full credit
  • You are required to double check scantron for
    completion of all questions (once test is turned
    in you may not request your test be returned)
  • If you are caught looking at another persons
    quiz, using notes, or any other form of cheating,
    you will receive a 0 grade and the VN
    Department Head will be notified (see VN
    handbook)

  • 12 quizzes x 25 pts 300 pts
  • Final exam 100 pts
  • Pass 1 of 3 dosage calculation tests with 86
  • 3 attempts offered
  • At 3rd fail, student will be dropped from course
  • Must be passed irrespective of theory grade or
    extra credit points
  • Total point structure subject to change

  • Drug nitroglycerin (Nitro-Bid, Nitrostat)
  • Classification antianginal, nitrate
  • Indication acute long-term management of
    angina pectoris controlled hypotension during
    surg tx of CHF (unlabeled use)
  • Action Relaxes smooth muscles, dilates
    arterioles capillaries
  • Contraindication hypersensitivity, severe
    anemia, pericardial tamponade, constrictive
    pericarditis, ETOH intolerance
  • Side Effects Toxicities Headache with
    throbbing, dizziness, weakness, blurred vision,
    dry mouth, tachycardia, postural hypotension
  • Route Sublingual, topical, by mouth (PO), or IV
  • Dosage Sublingual, one tablet under tongue or in
    buccal pouch, may be repeated x3 if necessary
    timed-release capsule, two or three times a day
    at 8-12hr intervals ointment, apply to any
    convenient skin area spread in thin, uniform
    layer 1-2 inches, may be applied every 3-4 h PRN
  • Nursing Implications Assessment pain, P BP
    before after administration. Implementation
    do not crush sustained release tabs SL buccal
    to be held until dissolved rotate topical sites
    remove patches before cardioversion or
    defibrillation. Patient/family teaching take as
    directed go to ER if 3 doses in 15 minutes are
    ineffective severe headache may occur flushing,
    dizziness, or weakness is usually transient if
    blurred vision or dry mouth occurs, discontinue
    use change position slowly avoid ETOH do not
    expose tabs to air, moisture, light, or heat.
    Evaluation decreased angina.

  • Tagamet cimetidine Anti-ulcer
  • INDICATIONS Treatment of active duodenal ulcers.
    Prophylaxis of duodenal ulcers.
  • ACTION Inhibits gastric acid secretion
  • ROUTE DOSAGE 300 mg QID/Q6h PO/IM
  • CONTRAINDICATIONS Hypersensitivity
  • ADVERSE REACTIONS Confusion, dizziness,
    drowsiness, nausea, agranulocytosis, aplastic
    anemia
  • NURSING IMPLICATIONS Assessment monitor for
    abdominal pain, frank or occult blood in
    stool/emesis. Monitor for confusion, especially
    in the elderly, check CBC Teaching Smoking
    interferes with cimetidine action. Encourage
    patient to quit smoking. Caution patient to avoid
    activities requiring alertness. Avoid alcohol
    meds that may increase gastric irritation. Pt. to
    report black stools, confusion to Dr. Evaluation
    Decrease in abdominal pain or prevention of
    gastric irritation bleeding. Decreased sx of
    esophageal reflux
