6How were the projects for this bond package
determined?
- A 2004 DSISD Facility Advisory Task Force
recommended a Secondary School Study Group look
at facility needs at secondary school level - In 2005, the Secondary School Study Group (SSDG)
initiated a study and process to develop
recommendations to the District for the maximum
student capacity, grade configurations, and use
of existing buildings at middle and high school
level - A Long-Range District Facilities Planning Team
was created to address the facility needs based
on the SSDG recommendations - Appointed by the Board of Trustees
- Included 74 community members representing all
attendance areas - Included parents, grandparents, business owners,
teachers, principals, administrators, staff,
board members, and other community taxpayers - The Planning Team reviewed data and facilities
and projected needs for the next 15-20 years - This bond program was determined by the Planning
Team to be the most appropriate solution for
secondary facility needs in the District
7Secondary Enrollment Projection
8Why are we exchanging sites for the middle and
high school?
- Current high school site does not have enough
land to accommodate future growth for a 2,500
student campus - The District already owns more available land at
the middle school site - A location swap allows the District to maintain
previous investments in facilities and maximize
use of available land
9Could we build a new school for the cost of these
renovation projects?
- The amount of this bond package would not likely
support either two new schools or one new school
and the renovations/additions needed to bring the
other campus to the desired capacity and
functionality - The cost of land for a new middle school or high
school site is not affordable within this bond
package amount
10Does the District currently own enough land for
these middle and high school projects?
- Yes - The District owns sufficient land to
complete these projects - Some funds are included in this bond package for
future land purchases
11When will the new schools open?
- Both the high school and middle school projects
are proposed to be open in Fall 2010
12Will construction be going on while school is in
session?
- Yes - Design will begin immediately if this bond
issue passes - As much as possible, construction will be planned
to take place during the summer - The District will work with architects and
construction managers to plan a phased design
that will provide the safest environment and
least amount of disruption
13How were costs for these projects determined?
- The Long Range District Facilities Planning Team
worked with a professional architect and a
contractor to develop the scope and estimated
costs of these projects
14When can we see drawings of these projects?
- The District worked with an architect to develop
educational specification for facilities at all
grade levels and conceptual studies - The educational specifications have been approved
by the Board of Trustees and provide framework
for the campus expansion - Once the bond passes, the actual design process
will begin - District staff, faculty, and the community will
have an opportunity for input during the design
process
15Is a new stadium included in this bond package?
- No Funds are only included to support some
modifications at existing athletic facilities
16How will this bond package affect my property
taxes?
- It is estimated that the 2007-08 tax rate will
increase 7.47 cents per 100 valuation - This would result in an estimated monthly
property tax increase of 12.45 on a 200,000
home in DSISD

Estimated Monthly Total Tax Increase9.3412.45
15.56
17If Im over 65, how will this bond package affect
my taxes?
- Unless new improvements are made to your home,
taxpayers with an over-65 homestead exemption
will NOT see an increase in their taxes if their
taxes were frozen at the time of their 65th
birthday - To have your taxes frozen, you must make
application to your County Appraisal District
18What future facility needs does DSISD anticipate?
- The Long Range District Facilities Planning Team
has considered future facility needs of the
District - The District has not implemented a time frame yet
for any other future projects - Student enrollment growth will be a critical
factor in initiating future facility projects
19How can funds from this bond program be used?
- New schools
- Renovations to existing school facilities
- Furniture, equipment, technology
- Fees, cost of issuance of bonds
- Land purchases for future facilities
