• Arrive early and make the most use of the time in

Note Taking

• One of the many skills grade nine teachers
  complain that their students lack is proper note
  taking skills. Give your son or daughter a head
  start. Go through these hand outs and practice,
  practice, practice.

Plagiarism

• EIS uses TURNITIN.com an online plagiarism
  detection program
• Grade nine students are given clear instruction
  and practice in avoiding plagiarism in both their
  English and Social Studies curriculum
• Students that do plagiarize, after receiving
  instruction on how not to, receive a zero on the
  assignment and a suspension.

Study Skills

• It is up to you as parents to provide a proper
  background and atmosphere to maximize successful
  study skills
• Find out how to do so on the EIS school pbworks
  website!
• Study Skills is offered as an elective class for
  grade ten students
• Did you know that playing chess improves
  concentration and can lead to higher grades?

Handbook

• For at least two years, EIS has been without a
  Parent-Student handbook. In 2009-10, we hope
  that that will change.
• Handbooks will be distributed at the beginning of
  the year and will be available on Edline for you
  to download
