What Will We Learn?

• How many layers are in the rainforest
• Plant life in each of the layers
• Animal life in each of the layers
• The destruction of the rainforest
• What we can do to save the rainforests from being
  destroyed

There Are Four Layers in the Rainforest

• Forest floor
• Under story
• Canopy
• Emergent

The Forest Floor

• Very, very dark
• Plants are very rare in this layer of the
  rainforest
• Things decay very quickly
• Giant anteaters live in this layer!

The Under Story

• Very little sunshine
• Plants have larger leaves and dont grow very
  tall
• Jaguars, red-eyed tree frogs, and leopards call
  the under story layer their home!

The Canopy

• Primary layer of the rainforest
• Forms a roof over the other two layers
• Plants have smooth, oval leaves that come to a
  point
• There is plenty of food found in this layer
• Animals that live here include snakes, toucans,
  and tree frogs

The Emergent

• The tallest trees grow in the emergent layer
• Most of the trees are broad-leaved hardwood
  evergreens
• Lots of sunshine
• Eagles, monkeys, bats, and butterflies live in
  the emergent layer!

Destruction of the Rainforest

• 50 million acres a year are lost, this is the
  size of England, Wales, and Scotland combined!
• A rainforest cannot be replaced once it is
  destroyed.

What Can We Do To Save The Rainforests?

• Eat only rainforest- friendly foods
• Use only rainforest-friendly materials
• Fund raisers to help support the rainforests

Is That All We Can Do?

• No! You can also do the following
• Boycotting companies who use rainforest materials
  (Burger King)
• Write letters to city officials, congress, and
  senate, the written word is very powerful!!

We Now Know

• How many layers a rainforest has
• What types of plants and animals live in each
  layer
• That rainforests are being destroyed and cannot
  be replaced
• What we can do to help save rainforests!

• The rainforest trees are home to so many living
  creatures, including human beings!
