Title: HADRONTHERAPY IN ROMANIA
1HADRONTHERAPY IN ROMANIA

HADRONTHÉRAPIE EN ROUMANIE

ROMANIAN SOCIETY OF HADRONTHERAPY BUCHAREST,
ROMANIA
2- For 300.000 Romanian cases of cancer, the
existent radiotherapies facilities of national
oncology system are inadequate. - The recommendations of AEIA about the country
necessity planning of radiotherapy are in direct
proportions with the national inhabitant revenue
and the number of people. - Incorrect because this kind of plan offer an open
door for the actual chemotherapy and surgery, the
treatment tools reputable for their high costs
and low efficacy.
LYON HADRONTHERAPY WORKSHOP 20-21 July 06
3- For a cancer patient it is preferable to make
many efficient therapeutically acts in a short
time with a low human costs, therapy followed by
the diagnostic for evaluation of present state
and a prognostic evolution. - This is a correct medical, scientifically and
humanitarian point of view and the hadrontherapy
is solution, now and after ten years when the
number of cancer cases will be double. - This high costs means financials and human
(biologically, psychically and social ) costs
difficulty supportable by an economic system
destructed like these from my country. - We are too poor to buy the cheap things !
LYON HADRONTHERAPY WORKSHOP 20-21 July 06
4Ours first results
- We have only 4(four !) patients traits with
protontherapy . Now, one is dead, two make
recurrences and one has a good evolution !
LYON HADRONTHERAPY WORKSHOP 20-21 July 06
5In this situation we are beginning to make a
professional and scientifically organization,
named Romanian Society of HadrontherapyRSH.
We are medical doctors, physicists,
radiobiology specialists and our target is to
develop Hadrontherapy in our country.
LYON HADRONTHERAPY WORKSHOP 20-21 July 06
6We started our work with signaling our presence
into mass media, to make clinical audits in
different specialties, to make of feasibility
studies for hadrontherapy facilities.In this
year we hope to organize the first consultative
workshop in the field of hadrontherapy.
LYON HADRONTHERAPY WORKSHOP 20-21 July 06
7Another important direction is to assure the
economic bases of our activities and our
economists work for planning a good strategy for
this.
LYON HADRONTHERAPY WORKSHOP 20-21 July 06
8Another objective of medical department of RSH is
to select the patients with indications for
hadrontherapy, to contact the hadrontherapy
centers and to suggest our Minister of Health and
our National House of Health Insurance the best
possibilities to treat the patients, to make a
good follow-up, and to evaluate the efficiency of
their treatment.

9Our research
LYON HADRONTHERAPY WORKSHOP 20-21 July 06
10National
- Our national actual facilities are resumed to be
a support for the international research
collaborations. - But, step by step, we organize the studies in
some phenomena of fragmentation, the
theoretically studies for simulation, for
building the computational biology and
theoretical medicine models, studies in
neutrotherapy.
LYON HADRONTHERAPY WORKSHOP 20-21 July 06
11- International
- We began at Dubna
- Protontherapy
- MedNuclotron Program .
- In MedNuclotron we have two groups
- one in radiobiology in space (Romanian Space
Research Institute) - another in radiotherapy with protons and carbon
ions - University of Medicine and Pharmacy,
- INCDIE ICPE-CA,
- IFIN HH.
LYON HADRONTHERAPY WORKSHOP 20-21 July 06
12- The objectives of the second group are
- - the spatial and temporal dosimetry of
the tissue irradiation in the neighboring of the
target tissue (neurons, protons another nuclear
fragments and the gamma irradiations) - - the supplemental irradiation of the
target and the rest of human body, after the
exposure of protons or carbon ions beams - - the radiobiological and radio electro
biological effects after hadrontherapy - - specific detectors, equipment and
dosimetricaly methods - - computational biology and theoretically
medicine models - - some clinically audit, comparison and
association between protontherapy, ions carbons,
electromagnetic radiotherapy - - study of centralized hadrontherapy
(based to synchrotron or Fixed Field Alternating
Gradient synchrotron) or distributed
hadrontherapy (based to little superconducting
cyclotron or new sources of hadron beams) - - the PET and BNCT studies
LYON HADRONTHERAPY WORKSHOP 20-21 July 06
13The collaboration needs and opportunities
- - economically problems of hadrontherapy
- o feasibility studies
- o protocols of collaboration in the
treatment of our patients - - the research collaborations or multi-centers
research - - technological collaborations
- - theoretically and computing fields
- - medical, radiobiological research
LYON HADRONTHERAPY WORKSHOP 20-21 July 06
14- The proposed instruments of collaboration
- - workshops,
- - common participating in research
programs, - - contracts of technology transfer,
technology acquisitions, etc. - - learning programs and exchange
experience for the specialists, etc.
LYON HADRONTHERAPY WORKSHOP 20-21 July 06
15- The Romanian institutions interested are
- University of Medicine and Pharmacy
- Romanian Society of Hadrontherapy
- National Institutes with interests in nuclear,
electromagnetic, biology, research (ICDIE
ICPE-CA, IFIN HH, IBC, etc.) - Private Romanian companies
