  • Any main contractor or sub-contractor will agree
    that the construction industry is an extremely
    competitive industry, and profit margins need to
    remain extremely sharp if a company is to stay
    competitive, an in business.

  • A loyal client base will only go so far, as
    clients continue to demand ever increasing value
    for money on their projects, contractors need to
    evolve and find effective ways to reduce cost, or
    to increase value on their projects.

  • Change management has always been an area where
    many companies fall down on, whereby verbal site
    based instructions and the operational teams
    lack of knowledge regarding the contract often
    results in additional work going un-paid, and
    missed within monthly valuations / applications
    for payment.

  • The site manager always has good intentions at
    the beginning of the project, whereby his site
    instruction book is with him wherever he goes,
    ever conscious to the possibility of earning
    extra money for his company whilst at the same
    time weighing this up against not wanting to
    upset his client..

  • Problems occur a few weeks in, the SI book has by
    this point been lost and much of the paperwork
    which has been filled in, has ended up on the
    floor in the van due to site pressures of getting
    the job done, taking propriety over commercial.
    This potential extra value, (unless the contract
    is re-measurable or cost plus for example), is as
    good as lost.

    cloud based solutions to overcome this problem,
    whereby site managers can log into their projects
    from an iPhone or tablet device from site,
    eliminating the need for paperwork and all
    problems associated with hard copy systems.

  • All change logged from site ultimately feeds
    into the monthly valuation, so when the
    application for payment goes in no stone is left
    unturned as all potential additional value has
    already been logged. The commercial team may then
    make the decision on whether the change
    represents additional cost or time to the
    project, and action accordingly with their
    client.
