Block 2 MetroHealth

• Longitudinal patient experiences
• Week 1 all students will be placed in a clinical
  setting and assigned longitudinal patient(s).
  Logged into e-portfolio.
• Settings LD, Nursery, Urgent Care, ED, Stroke
  Clinic
• Gain exposure to continuity of patient care over
  the 16 week block

Longitudinal Patient Experience

• At the beginning of block 2 each student will
  carry the stroke pager for a 24-hour period
• During that time they will be assigned an acute
  stroke patient
• Continuity of care from acute evaluation,
  assessment, and outpatient follow-up (16 week
  period)

Psychiatry 4 weeks

• Three teaching services
• Inpatient psychiatric unit (MHMC)
• Consultation/liaison service
• Inpatient psychiatric unit (CPI)
• 2 evening calls per 4 week rotation to gain
  exposure to acute psych presentations in the ED
• Saturday morning rounds (1x/mo)

Psychiatry - Didactics

• Morning and noon lectures
• Case presentation with Neurology
• Weekly Grand Rounds (except for summer months)

Neurology 2 week rotation

• Students alternate between inpatient and
  outpatient experience to maximize exposure to
  range of neurological cases
• Outpatient Neurology Clinic
• e.g. Muscular Dystrophy Clinic
• Inpatient Students will be assigned inpatients
  and/or consultations

Neurology - MetroHealth

• Afternoon rounds Radiology review
• Didactic lectures Daily at 5pm
• Web-based seminars Neurology learning
  objectives
• Demonstration of Neurologic Testing
• e.g. EEG, EMG, and nerve conduction testing
• Monthly Grand Rounds

OB/GYN 4 weeks

• Longitudinal patient assignment
• e.g. 3rd trimester pregnant woman
• ½ day session with an attending physician in an
  outpatient clinic
• Night float OB service, 1 week,
• 5pm-7am
• OB days Labor and Delivery

OB/GYN - MetroHealth

• Students will also rotate through the OB/GYN
  ambulatory clinics and the operating room.
• Wednesday afternoon education series Lectures,
  integrated presentations, interdisciplinary
  rounds, and student presentations.

Pediatrics 4 weeks

• Students rotate on a variety of clinical
  settings
• Inpatient pediatric floor
• Urgent care clinic
• Newborn nursery
• Pediatric ICU

Pediatrics - MetroHealth

• Opportunity for longitudinal patients
• Weekly conferences on the pediatric learning
  objectives, student case presentations, and
  integrated conferences with OB/GYN service.
• Overnight call when on the inpatient service.

Block 2 MetroHealth Remaining 2 weeks

• All disciplines in the block 2 rotation will
  offer a 2 week experience.
• Student assignments will be based on their
  selections and as space permits.
• Examples
• OB/GYN service Ambulatory, or Operating room
• Pediatrics Inpatient, or well child care/urgent
  care setting
• Neurology Neuroradiology or neurosurgery
• Psychiatry addiction psychiatry, or child
  outpatient psychiatry on the MRDD service
