It's a phenomenon that has taken the world by storm. There's a book. There's a movie. And there's a fundamentalist quasi-cult following preaching the word and irritating the locals in major cities worldwide-Toronto being no exception. No, I'm not talking about Harry Potter. This is The Secret a bastardization of Eastern philosophy, combined with what appears to be the Lazyman's Bible, and sold to the masses for profit. For those of you who are unfamiliar with its principles, The Secret claims that we have the ability to manifest our most literal thoughts in order to fulfil our desires. For instance, if you want a million dollars, all you have to do is imagine the money and poof! An envelope shall be waiting for you in your mailbox. And to think, we've been wasting all this time on frivolous things such as hard work and dedication. The Secret goes on to say that the misfortunes in our lives are not caused by random acts of universal chaos but can instead be attributed to our own negative thoughts. Surely the AIDS-ridden orphans in Sierra Leone will concur with this doctrine. And it concludes in true megalomaniacal triumph by stating that, being the masters of our own destiny, we are in fact God incarnate. Can I get an amen?
2 The Amazing You Book
Despite being riddled with contradictions and a thinly-veiled blasphemous flare, the ideology behind The Secret is based on something quite household and not secretive at all magical thinking. Magical thinking is where a person believes that their thoughts have a direct effect on reality. It is something that nearly all children experience. Children are, by nature, incredibly self-centred because they have not yet come to understand that the world doesn't revolve around them. They see themselves as directly related to everything, even if solely by thought. For example, it is not uncommon for a child to blame himself for his parents' divorce. Magical thinking in children is, however, a temporary phase. By the time they enter teenage-hood, most children have come to understand the separation between their thoughts and reality (coincidentally, this is also a time of chronic angst). Because The Secret recaptures that essence of blissful naivety, it has obvious allure. After all, wouldn't it be nice if it were true? Imagine if we really did have more control over our lives that we seem to, and that we could make drastic changes to our situation simply by focusing our thoughts. Wouldn't that be pretty awesome?
3 The Amazing You System
Well, it appears that-in an incredibly warped way-the vainglorious minds behind The Secret were on to something. Orphan condemnation and delusions of grandeur aside, the idea that we can control our circumstances (at least, the ones that stem directly from our emotions and behaviours) by using our minds is entirely possible. In fact, it happens all the time. It's happening right now as I type this article, only fourteen feet from where I sit. I'm talking, of course, about hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy uses many of the same focus techniques as the ancient Eastern philosophies that The Secret debauches. While the notion of making a wad of cash appear in your mailbox is perhaps the equivalent of bending spoons with your mind (essentially impossible), people do have more control over their lives than they think. Anyone who suffers from negative thoughts or feelings (depression, anxiety) or from detrimental hard-to-shake habits (overeating, smoking) does have the power to change their circumstance. And they can do so using only their mind. All of our thoughts, emotions and behaviours stem from ideas within our subconscious mind. These ideas form out of the various observations and experiences we have accumulated over a lifetime. Unlike our conscious mind, our subconscious does not operate on a basis of logic and rational. As a result, these ideas are largely misconceptions that instigate negative feelings or actions.

And since we are generally unaware of the ideas in our The Amazing You Review subconscious, these feelings/actions seem difficult or impossible to eliminate because we don't have access to the source of the issue. Hypnotherapy allows us to connect with our subconscious mind and uncover the root of our problems. From there, and by using powerful motivational suggestion, we can modify those root ideas in order to change our feels/actions to promote a happier, healthier lifestyle. Let's take another look at that million dollars example. Both hypnotherapy and The Secret agree that the first step to acquiring the money would be to visualise it. However, The Secret's next move would be to sit and wait for the money to come find you. Hypnotherapy, on the other hand, will concentrate on what abilities you need in order to earn that million. Are you motivated and ambitious? Can you manage stress and perform under pressure? Do you have the specific skill set needed to excel in your field, such as the ability to speak in public? Are you confident enough to take the necessary risks to achieve your goal? Through hypnotherapy, you can develop the personal and professional traits needed to become extremely successful in the business world.http//togetherweearn.com/profiles/ blogs/the-amazing-you-program-review quicker? In short, The Secret isn't all bad. After all, acknowledging the need for change is the first step towards incurring change. And we do have much more control over our situations than we think. However, sitting around and wishing for something to happen isn't nearly as effective as making it happen. And that's no secret.
