Title: The Christian Roots of our Nation
1The Christian Roots of our Nation
2Biblical Priorities
- God
- Family
- Church
- Country
This used to be the priorities of our nation as
well.
3Priorities now
2Ti 31 But realize this, that in the last days
difficult times will come. 2Ti 32 For men will
be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful,
arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents,
ungrateful, unholy, 2Ti 33 unloving,
irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without
self-control, brutal, haters of good, 2Ti 34
treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of
pleasure rather than lovers of God, 2Ti 35
holding to a form of godliness, although they
have denied its power Avoid such men as these.
- Self
- Status
- Pleasure
- Family
- World peace
4- Php 318 For many walk, of whom I often told
you, and now tell you even weeping, that they are
enemies of the cross of Christ, - Php 319 whose end is destruction, whose god is
their appetite, and whose glory is in their
shame, who set their minds on earthly things. - Php 320 For our citizenship is in heaven
5II Peter 29-22
- 2Pe 219 promising them freedom while they
themselves are slaves of corruption for by what
a man is overcome, by this he is enslaved. - Gal 51 It was for freedom that Christ set us
free therefore keep standing firm and do not be
subject again to a yoke of slavery.
6- Gal 513 For you were called to freedom,
brethren only do not turn your freedom into an
opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve
one another. - Our nation has become a nation of people
enslaved! To what?
7- 1Jn 215 Do not love the world nor the things in
the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of
the Father is not in him. - 1Jn 216 For all that is in the world, the lust
of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the
boastful pride of life, is not from the Father,
but is from the world. - 1Jn 217 The world is passing away, and also its
lusts but the one who does the will of God lives
forever.
8America the land of those enslaved to
- lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and
the boastful pride of life
9Lust of the Flesh
- Jud 116 These are grumblers, finding fault,
following after their own lusts they speak
arrogantly, flattering people for the sake of
gaining an advantage. - Jud 117 But you, beloved, ought to remember the
words that were spoken beforehand by the apostles
of our Lord Jesus Christ, - Jud 118 that they were saying to you, "In the
last time there will be mockers, following after
their own ungodly lusts." - Jud 119 These are the ones who cause divisions,
worldly-minded, devoid of the Spirit.
10- 1Pe 211 Beloved, I urge you as aliens and
strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which
wage war against the soul.
11Lust of the Eyes
- Mar 947 "If your eye causes you to stumble,
throw it out it is better for you to enter the
kingdom of God with one eye, than, having two
eyes, to be cast into hell,
12- Php 37 But whatever things were gain to me,
those things I have counted as loss for the sake
of Christ. - Php 38 More than that, I count all things to be
loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing
Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered
the loss of all things, and count them but
rubbish so that I may gain Christ,
13Pride of life
- Mar 721 "For from within, out of the heart of
men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications,
thefts, murders, adulteries, - Mar 722 deeds of coveting and wickedness, as
well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride
and foolishness. - Mar 723 "All these evil things proceed from
within and defile the man."
14- Pro 1616 How much better it is to get wisdom
than gold! And to get understanding is to be
chosen above silver. - Pro 1617 The highway of the upright is to
depart from evil He who watches his way
preserves his life. - Pro 1618 Pride goes before destruction, And a
haughty spirit before stumbling. - Pro 1619 It is better to be humble in spirit
with the lowly Than to divide the spoil with the
proud. - Pro 1620 He who gives attention to the word
will find good, And blessed is he who trusts in
the LORD.
15- Jas 313 Who among you is wise and
understanding? Let him show by his good behavior
his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom. - Jas 314 But if you have bitter jealousy and
selfish ambition(Pride) in your heart, do not be
arrogant and so lie against the truth. - Jas 315 This wisdom is not that which comes
down from above, but is earthly, natural,
demonic. - Jas 316 For where jealousy and selfish ambition
exist, there is disorder and every evil thing. - Jas 317 But the wisdom from above is first
pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of
mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without
hypocrisy.
16The Declaration of Independence
- Bathed in Prayer, intent on following Christ, a
nation was Born with this on the heart of all who
formed this nation
17Today is the day to get right with God!
- First as individuals
- Second as families
- Third as the Church
- And prayerfully, then as a nation
18- In three days, we celebrate Independence Day
the day we with one voice declared that this
nation will no longer submit to the tyranny of
men but we will establish a nation under Gods
authority where we can worship Him in freedom.
- We founded a Christian nation where people can
worship God without fear. - Back then, in faith men cried God bless America
19- French writer Alexis de Tocqueville, after
visiting America in 1831, said, "I sought for the
greatness of the United States in her commodious
harbors, her ample rivers, her fertile fields,
and boundless forests--and it was not there. I
sought for it in her rich mines, her vast world
commerce, her public school system, and in her
institutions of higher learning--and it was not
there. I looked for it in her democratic Congress
and her matchless Constitution--and it was not
there. Not until I went into the churches of
America and heard her pulpits aflame with
righteousness did I understand the secret of her
genius and power. America is great because
America is good, and if America ever ceases to be
good, America will cease to be great!"
20- Patrick Henry,
- a leading anti-federalist and member of the
Continental Congress -- you know him, the - give me liberty, or give me death guy.
- He said
- It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too
often that this great nation was founded - not by religionists, but by Christians. It was
founded not on religion, but on the - Gospel of Jesus Christ.
21America hoped in the Lord
- My hope is not in man, but,
22- The Supreme Court of Maryland said in 1799 that
Christianity was the religion of our
government.
23Our Godly rootsBen Franklin
- God governs in the affairs of man.
- Constitutional Convention
- Thursday June 28, 1787
Ben Franklin
24Washington
- It is impossible to rightly govern the world
without God and Bible.
George Washington
25Jefferson
- And can the liberties of a nation be thought
secure if we have lost the only firm basis, a
conviction in the minds of the people that these
liberties are the gift of God? That they are not
to be violated but with His wrath? - Notes on the State of Virginia (Philadelphia
Matthew Carey, 1794), Query XVIII, p. 237.
Thomas Jefferson
26Even then
- I tremble for my country when I realize that God
is just and that His justice will not sleep
forever. - Notes on the State of Virginia, 1781
Thomas Jefferson
27- Romans 131-7 Everyone must submit himself to the
governing authorities, for there is no authority
except that which God has established. The
authorities that exist have been established by
God. 2Consequently, he who rebels against the
authority is rebelling against what God has
instituted, and those who do so will bring
judgment on themselves. 3For rulers hold no
terror for those who do right, but for those who
do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the
one in authority? Then do what is right and he
will commend you. 4For he is God's servant to do
you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he
does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's
servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on
the wrongdoer. 5Therefore, it is necessary to
submit to the authorities, not only because of
possible punishment but also because of
conscience. 6This is also why you pay taxes, for
the authorities are God's servants, who give
their full time to governing. 7Give everyone what
you owe him If you owe taxes, pay taxes if
revenue, then revenue if respect, then respect
if honor, then honor.
28America
- 1. All Governments are ESTABLISHED by God.
- Romans 131 Everyone must submit himself to the
governing authorities, for there is no authority
except that which God has established. The
authorities that exist have been established by
God.
29Our founding fathers spoke much of Americas
foundation
- President John Quincy Adams (1821) said From
the time of the Declaration of Independence, the
American people were bound by the laws of God and
the laws of the gospel of Jesus Christ, which
they all acknowledge as the root of their
conduct. We all came together to obey the word of
God. - George Washington Farewell Address to Nation Do
not let anyone claim tribute of American
patriotism if they even attempt to remove
religion from politics. - Patrick Henry It cannot be emphasized too
strongly or to often that this great nation was
founded not by religionists but by Christians,
not on religion but on the gospel of Jesus
Christ. - President Thomas Jefferson The 1st amendment
has created a wall of separation between church
and state, but that wall is a one directional
wall, it keeps the government from running the
church, but it makes sure that Christian
principles will always stay in government.
30America
- 2. Built upon the Foundation of the WORD OF GOD!
- Isaiah 3322 For the Lord is our judge, the Lord
is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king it is he
who will save us.
- Judge Judicial Branch (Police Courts)
- Lawgiver Legislative Branch (House Senate)
- King Executive Branch (President Cabinet)
31Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a
disgrace to any people. Proverbs 1434

40May God Bring America back to her first love
- Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord
- Psalm 3312a
41Their own testimonies
- We recognize no Sovereign but God, and no King
but Jesus! - April 18, 1775, on the eve of the Revolutionary
War after a British major ordered them to
disperse in the name of George the Sovereign
King of England."
John Hancock
42- 52 of the 55 men who began this country all said,
43What were the commands and expectations of our
Founding Fathers?
- Carry on the Christian religion as the official
religion of America, with no denomination
receiving favor from the government - Elect only Christians for our leaders
- Make worship a part of your public life make
public service a part of your worship - 4) Evangelize the nation, and especially the
children, in the doctrines of Christianity as the
best way to ensure liberty and security for our
nation. Laws are not enough. You need Jesus.
44Christianity, the religion of America
- The name of American, belongs to youand with
slight shades of difference, you have the same
religion. - Speaking of Biblical Christianity
- Paragraph 10 Farewell Address, September 17,
1796
George Washington
45Christianity, the religion of America
- 1799 Runkel v. Winemiller
- By our form of government, the Christian
religion is the established religion, and all
sects and denominations of Christians are placed
on the same equal footing.
Supreme Court Justice Samuel Chase Signer of the
Declaration of Independence Delegate to 1st and
2nd Continental Congresses
46Since the early sixties
- We have ripped the Bible out of our schools,
prayer from our children in schools, and the ten
commandments from every government related
building. - Now, the ACLU is making cities (like Los Angeles)
take the cross out of their cities seal. - We are now a diverse nation under many gods
rather than one nation under God! - We need a revival!
47We have made America a Godless nation. Guess who
rules now?
- His rule has led to a nation of immoral,
materialistic people whose own sin has become
their god. We need to declare our independence
from sin. We need to repent. We need revival!! - Â
- "I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a
slave to sin" (John 834) -- - Â
- Do you want to be free today? Its time to
declare your independence from the tyranny of
sin. - Â
- Its time to repent and allow Gods Spirit to set
you free! July 4, 2007 is our independence day!
Revival starts today!
48- We need to pray for our nation.
- Â
- 1Ti 21 First of all, then, I urge that
entreaties and prayers, petitions and
thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, 2
for kings and all who are in authority, so that
we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all
godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and
acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who
desires all men to be saved and to come to the
knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God,
and one mediator also between God and men, the
man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself as a ransom
for all, the testimony given at the proper time.
49Our new motto
- God save America - I don't see how He can bless
it in the state we're in now. - However, no matter how far into the cess-pool of
sin this nation sinks, we have faith and remember
that our true home, our true citizenship is in
heaven. The USA is simply our mission field, our
temporary dwelling place.
50- Phi 317 Brethren, join in following my example,
and observe those who walk according to the
pattern you have in us. 18 For many walk, of whom
I often told you, and now tell you even weeping,
that they are enemies of the cross of Christ, 19
whose end is destruction, whose god is their
appetite, and whose glory is in their shame, who
set their minds on earthly things. 20 For our
citizenship is in heaven, from which also we
eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ
51We need to abide in Christ!
- "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples
indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the
truth shall make you free" (John 831-32) - Today is the day to declare our independence from
sin. - Heb 121 Therefore, since we have so great a
cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also
lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so
easily entangles us, and let us run with
endurance the race that is set before us,
52- On July 4, 1821, President Adams said, "The
highest glory of the American Revolution was
this it connected in one indissoluble bond the
principles of civil government with the
principles of Christianity." - We have lost that as a country and many have lost
that as individual Christians. - We need to Pray!

54Jedediah Morse
- To the kindly influence of Christianity we owe
that degree of civil freedom, and political and
social happiness which mankind now enjoys. . . .
Whenever the pillars of Christianity shall be
overthrown, our present republican forms of
government, and all blessings which flow from
them, must fall with them. -
- Election Sermon given at Charleston, MA, on
April 25, 1799
Jedediah Morse The Father of American
Geography, whose Writings were official
textbooks In our public schools
55Let us be salt and light
- Mat 513 "You are the salt of the earth but if
the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made
salty again? It is no longer good for anything,
except to be thrown out and trampled under foot
by men. - Mat 514 "You are the light of the world. A city
set on a hill cannot be hidden
56- Mat 515 nor does anyone light a lamp and put it
under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it
gives light to all who are in the house. - Mat 516 "Let your light shine before men in
such a way that they may see your good works, and
glorify your Father who is in heaven.
57We need healing and revival!
- And we have this promise in scripture2Chro
n. 714 If My people who are called by My
name humble themselves and pray and seek My face
and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear
from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal
their land.
58Today, we declare our independence from
compromised living. We must shine forth brightly
with the Light of Gods love!Today, July 1,
2007 is truly our independence day.I pray you
will decide to allow God to set you free from
whatever is keeping you from living for God!By
07/07/07 I pray you will be where you need to be
with God, Family, Church, and Country!
591Pe 212 Keep your behavior excellent among the
Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they
slander you as evildoers, they may because of
your good deeds, as they observe them, glorify
God in the day of visitation. 1Pe 213 Submit
yourselves for the Lord's sake to every human
institution, whether to a king as the one in
authority, 1Pe 214 or to governors as sent by
him for the punishment of evildoers and the
praise of those who do right. 1Pe 215 For such
is the will of God that by doing right you may
silence the ignorance of foolish men. 1Pe 216
Act as free men, and do not use your freedom as a
covering for evil, but use it as bondslaves of
God.
