    likely to deliver prematurely, and are less
    likely to have other serious problems related to

The Mission
  • of Healthy Mothers/Healthy Babies
  • is to improve birth outcomes, promote healthy
    families and build healthy communities by
    providing cooperative community-oriented programs
    to the residents of Palm Beach County.

Office Locations
Healthy Mothers/Healthy Babies was established in
1986 after 900 Palm Beach County women delivered
their babies at local hospital emergency rooms
and had received little or no prenatal care. One
office and a staff of four served the county.
Today, there are 7 offices and a staff of 78
dedicated individuals.

  • Educates the community about the importance of
    early and uninterrupted prenatal care

  • Assists women that face challenges obtaining

  • Contacts pregnant women who have applied for
    Medicaid
  • Explains available healthcare benefits (private
    Physician, Midwife Clinics)
  • Provides pregnancy related educational materials
  • Provides Community Referrals

HospitalLiaison
  • Hospital-based, voluntary prevention program
    designed to identify at risk mothers infants
  • Assists mothers to enroll for eligible services
    such as home visits by RNs, Immunization
    reminders and promotes healthy child development
  • Completes postnatal risk screen

Emergency Assistance Pantry
  • Three offices (LW, WPB and GS) have an emergency
    pantry to provide nonperishable items to
    families in need.
  • Donations are accepted for the pantry.

    lives of their children through

MaleHealthAdvocacy
  • Goal is to increase access to prenatal care by
    reaching out and educating males
  • Men receive the same information as women as to
    the importance of prenatal care as well as where
    to find the services throughout the county

  • HM/HB staff visits PBC middle high schools to
    discuss consequences of teenage pregnancy, male
    responsibility, birth control STDs
  • Childbirth preparedness classes
  • Parenting babysitting classes
  • Girl Talk

  • Pregnant Hispanic women and families who live in
    Lake Worth and Lantana have a easily accessible
    center where they receive prenatal care and other
    services designed to meet their own cultural
    needs.
  • The new centering model gives pregnant women a
    chance to learn about pregnancy, childbirth, and
    parenting with other women in a group setting.
  • Women spend more time with their health care
    provider
  • Parents gain important skills for bringing up
    healthy, happy children.

Mobile Outreach Center
  • Staff aboard this vehicle register women for
    services in their own communities, eliminating
    waiting time.

The Board of Directors of the Corporation,
Healthy Mothers/Healthy Babies Coalition of Palm
Beach County, Inc. (HM/HB), is the legally
designated and authorized body of members charged
with the responsibility and fiduciary duty to act
on behalf of HM/HB as towards all Corporate
business matters, transactions and activities.
Members are held to a general standard of good
faith in carrying out their Board duties in a
prudent manner that they reasonably believe to be
in the best interests of HM/HB.

  • Exercise wise and prudent decision-making in
    carrying out the business affairs of HM/HB
  • Identify at least five candidates for donor
    solicitation or for board membership to advance
    HM/HB mission and goals
  • Commit their time, efforts and resources by
    attending board meetings, participating in
    Corporate activities and being involved in fund
    development
  • Commit to an active two-year term
  • Give or Get a minimum of a 1000 donation
    annually in addition to donations of goods or
    services
  • Participate in HM/HB fundraising events and serve
    as a spokesperson to promote the mission
