Cookie cutter homes are usually the type of homes
that you will find in new home construction
developments.  One way to save money on the
material that is needed to create custom built
homes although they are all built basically in
the same way.  When all of the homes in the
development have the same basic design it means
that the contractor can buy all of the parts for
the homes in bulk resulting in getting the
material at discount prices. When these cookie
cutter homes are finished they may offer the
homebuyers little variation in appearance, which
is how they got their name.  All of these custom
built homes look as if they were cut with the
same cookie cutter.

The idea for designing homes like this dates back
to the mid twentieth century.  This is when
custom home builder started to build the first
tract homes.  You can still find some of these
types of homes in various neighborhoods but
overtime homeowners have changed some of the
details so they do not look like other homes. 
Today cookie cutter new home construction tends
to offer a little more variety in the finished
home.

little more variety to these custom built homes.
The home builder can slightly change the size of
the home, position the home in different way, and
other different features to accommodate potential
home buyers of varying price levels and tastes. 
The home builder can make them look like cookie
cutter homes but not a total cookie cutter
home.   They will look enough alike that the
builder will be able to buy the material in bulk
and receive discounts.

There are some potential home buyers that just do
not like this type of home even if they do have
some subtle differences.  They feel like the
homes do not give the homeowner the ability to
display their own individual expression.  This is
especially true if they belong to a homeowners
association where the homeowner has to get the
permission and approval of the association to
even paint the inside of their home.

There can several advantages to these custom
built homes. This type of home can be less
expensive because of the discounts the Lexington

bulk.  The materials that were used could be of
dependable quality because the manufacturers and
suppliers were use for all of the custom built
homes.  Even with these advantages there are
still some that see only the negative aspect of
these cookie cutter homes and would not buy one.
