Scintillator arrives at Rochester...
  • Received and stored at off-campus facility during
    collaboration meeting.
  • Bob Flight, Dan Ruggiero, and myself took receipt
    of the crate on October 12.
  • Inspected crate
  • Unpacked scintillator
  • Inspected plane
  • Took lots of pictures....

First impressions
  • Box heavily damaged in shipping

Box started with four 2X4s underneath, only 1
survived the trip.
Sidewall cracked
We spoke with warehouse foreman who received
crate shipper delivered it in this condition.

Unwrapped Plane
Top skin of plane compromised in 2 places.
Obvious damage not located near fibers.
50 long break compromised top skin and weave.
Plane structurally compromised.
20 long break in top skin

WLS Fibers
  • Dans impression of connector polish is positive.
  • Two broken fibers, one in each connector.
  • Connectors had chamfers in opposite orientations.
  • Glue joint between scintillator and comb pieces
    had failed.

Mapper Mechanical Design
  • Bid packages on machining to go out next week
  • Fabrication will be 8-12 weeks after that
  • Shop will fab/acquire all mechanical parts
  • Shop will assemble before we receive
  • Probably have parts ready to ship early February.
  • Techs will assemble early Feb. after FMP

Motion Control
  • Have had email dialog with Javier Solano and his
    students
  • 2 new students at FNAL for 1 year
  • Students from Pontifica returning by Feb.
  • Javier wants his students to work ½ time on
    mapper motion control
  • Everyone seems enthusiastic about the project
  • Would like to move forward with this will spent
    a little to get them running.

FMP
  • Assembly is driven by receipt of strongback
  • J. Kilmer will have it by late December-mid
    January
  • Scintillator planes will be in place by November
  • Planning to go to FNAL mid-January.
  • Mapper will be assembled February after FMP.
  • Test mapper late February/early March.....

Technicians
  • Dans been at UofR for past week
  • Making good progress...
  • Testing adhesives for lead attachment
  • Done some purchasing for FMP
  • ...but probably wont complete everything this
    week
  • Will have some work to take back to FNAL
  • Should be able to get through November with WBS9,
    Lab 5 and Howards tasks.

Summary/Conclusions
  • Plane shipping needs work well give Jeff a
    report later this week.
  • Seems as if schedule is what it is.
  • FMP in January
  • Mapper in February
  • Would like to have students from UNI work on
    motion control
  • Dan returns to FNAL next week.
