In ayurved, there are 8 types of treatments

• Kaya (General Medicine)
• BAL (Pediatric)
• Urdhvang (Nose, Head, Throat)
• Graha (Psychic and Psychosomatic)
• Visha (Toxins and Poisons)
• Shalya (Surgical)
• Rasayana (Rejuvenation)
• Vajikaran (Sexual Dysfunction)
• From these eight, Kaya Chikitsa or Treatment is
  very important and Panchkarma is one of the means
  of all above Ayurvedic Treatments.

Panchkarma Treatment

• Panchkarma includes five major treatments.
  These treatments create balance in elementary
  substances or dhatus present in the body.
• 1. Vaman ( Emesis )
• 2. Virechan ( Purgation )
• 3. Basti ( Medicated Enema )
• 4. Nasya ( Errhine therapy )
• 5. Raktmokshan ( Blood letting )

• Panchakarma is not limited to above five
  treatments. Purvkarm and Pashchatkarma are
  performed before and after every Panchkarma. They
  help to accelerate the purifying and restorating
  process of body.
• Purvkarmas are divided into three types
• 1) Pachan - which includes digestion
  improving medicines
• 2) Snehan - is an oil massage and consumption
  of medicated oil, ghee
• 3) Swedan - includes variety of sweating
  processes.
• Pashchatkarma is essential procedure conducted
  after the main panchkarma treatment. It helps to
  retain the body functions to normal.
  Pashchatkarma involves Samsarjan Kram, Rasayanadi
  kram and Shaman treatment.

Vaman Therapy

• It is used to induce vomiting in the person to
  get rid of the vitiated dodhas specially Kapha.
• Waste products (vitiated dosha) are eliminated
  through the upper gastrointestinal tract through
  the mouth.
• Vamana is only given to the eligible candidates
  after proper and complete examination.
• Vamana is helpful in Bronchial asthma, Cough,
  Heart burns, Anorexia, Diabetes, Epilepsy,
  Lunacy, Anaemia, Obesity, Goiter, Urticaria etc.

Virechana Therapy

• Virechana Therapy is defined as the medicated
  purgation therapy, which cleanses the Pitta and
  purifies blood, by clearing the doshas from the
  body.
• Virechana therapy treatment is usually
  administered for three days after Vamana
  treatment, but its duration may vary from case to
  case.
• Virechana can treat a number of health problems
  and uproot them, so that they do not occur again.
  
• Skin diseases, chronic fever, piles, vomiting,
  worms, gout, jaundice, irritable bowel syndrome,
  gastrointestinal problems and constipation can be
  effectively cured by Virechana therapy.

Basti Karma

• It eliminates vitiated vata dosha out through the
  rectum. The treatment involves the introduction
  of medicinal substances, such as, herbal oils and
  decoctions in a liquid medium, into the rectum of
  the person.
• Common cold, sexual disorders, kidney, backache,
  pain in the neck region, Retention of urine,
  Emaciation, Distention of abdomen, Numbness of
  any par, Intestinal worms, Headaches, Cervical
  and Lumbar spondylosis, arthritis, osteoporosis,
  hemiplegia, facial paralysis, constipation,
  vomiting and hyperacidity can also be cured by
  Basti karma.
• Basti karma is an effective treatment that has
  very few or no side effects on the body.

Nasya Therapy

• It is a process wherein the drug (medicated oils
  and liquid medicines) is administered through the
  nostrils. Since a nose is the gateway to the
  head, the therapy is highly effective in curing a
  number of diseases pertaining to the head, if it
  is performed systematically.
• The therapy cleanses and opens the channels of
  the head, which has a direct influence on the
  functioning of brain.
• Nasya karma ensures the proper and healthy growth
  of hair. The therapy enhances the activity of
  sense organs and protects the person from
  diseases pertaining to head (urdhwanga).
• It is administrated to cure diseases related to
  head, neck, ear and many other diseases like Skin
  Diseases, Epilepsy, Chronic catarrh, Headaches,
  Migraines, Voice constrain, Speech impediments,
  Paralysis, Seminal disorders etc.

Raktamokshan

• It is the fifth treatment in line. It helps in
  clearing the dosha residing in the deep tissue
  is the best remedial solution for Rakta shuddhi.
• Raktamokshan cures skin diseases, headaches,
  acute pain at localised sites, psoriasis, gout,
  Leprosy, Leucoderma, Depigmentation,
  Haemorrhoids, Pruritis, Spleen disorders, Mouth
  ulcers etc.
• Rakt is an important dhatu in our body. It cures
  the diseases related to vitiation of rakt dhatu.
  Two methods are used for raktamokshan therapy.
• Siravedh in which blood is drawn upto 30 to 100
  ml with the help of intracath from a vein. It is
  applied in the systemic or generalised disease.
• Jaloukavcharan in which blood is drawn with the
  help of leeches to cure localised diseases or
  pain.
