Whether you own a narrow boat or are planning to
buy one, you need a perfect place to moor your
boat. You can choose between a boatyard or a
marina to anchor your boat. If you prefer a
marina to moor your boat, you must know how to
choose the right marina for your boat. Here are a
few tips to help you find the right marina.
3
Location of the Marina   A boat marina should be
located near to where you live. Who would want to
travel distances everytime they want to cruise?
Choose a marina that is closer to your home.
Another important aspect of the location of a
marina is the canal network accessible from the
marina.Mooring your boat nearer to the canal
networks you wish to cruise would be ideal than
anchoring at a far-off marina and travelling to
the actual place each time. This will save time
you would otherwise be spending.
4
Facilities at the Marina   Every marina should
have basic facilities such as washrooms,
electricity, walkways, and access to gas and coal
for the boat. A few marinas have additional
facilities such as cafes and local shops. Almost
all the marinas provide facilities for applying
for a mooring license. Choose a marina where you
can find the facilities to your satisfaction. If
the nearest marina you have is at a distance from
your home, there should be public transportation
facility or a parking space for your vehicle. You
should also be checking out the security system
of the marina to make sure your boat is safe and
secure.
5
Easy Access to the Boats   An important thing of
mooring your boat at a marina is that it should
be easily accessible. The marina should have
enough space and facility to moor each boat in
such a way that mooring your boat in or out
should not be disrupted by other boats. The
marina should not need to move other boats or
your boat in and out or its mooring every time
your boat or other boats are cruised.
6
Fees for Mooring a Boat   You should be aware of
what is included in the mooring fees you will be
paying. The fee structure should be transparent
and you should be able to see each item and
facility you will be spending your money on.The
marina offers daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly,
half yearly and annual plans. Gather information
about which plan will suit you the best.Ask the
marina administration for a detailed breakup of
the costing of the marina fees. This will help to
avoid any unexpected surprises when the monthly
bill comes your way.
7
Know More   Gather reviews and recommendations of
fellow sailors to find out the efficiency and the
quality of services provided by a particular
marina. Try to find out how the administration
and the management deal with problems and how
they manage the security of the marina. If the
reviews are satisfactory, go ahead and find a
place to moor your boat.
