iPods and MP3 PlayersWhat are they?
  • Portable audio devices used for music, video,
    other audio files
  • Both are available with many different features.
  • Choices include hard drive space, video
    capabilities, radio, voice recorder, data
    storage, and others

How can we use them?
  • Audio books
  • iTunes cards can be purchased at local retail
    outlets (Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Circuit City). Books
    can also be purchased with a credit card or your
    school can set up an account with Apple. Books
    are purchased online and downloaded to iTunes for
    management.
  • Recorded Books school accounts available.
    Yearly subscription available for 375 for 50
    downloads with unlimited distribution. Must
    choose from a list which includes classics and
    newer books but information says they are owned
    district wide.
  • Audible, NetLibrary, and others also have
    services.

  • Podcasts (way to distribute and post multimedia
    files online)
  • Students create multimedia presentations for
    projects, etc.
  • Teachers use podcasts to facilitate learning.

Tips to Remember (for you and students)
  • Start out small shoot for a short podcast and
    work your way up to longer segments.
  • Write down important points or actually read from
    a script.
  • Practice before you record so your podcast
    doesnt sound too scripted OR off the cuff.
  • Learn how to mix. Adding sound effects makes
    your podcast more interesting and dynamic.
