1
Randolph Public Schools Technology Plan
  • Presented by
  • Denise Doherty

2
Commitment to a Clear Vision and Mission Statement
  • Realistic and clearly stated goals and strategies
  • Goals
  • Provide meaningful and frequent staff development
which addresses teacher technology skills and
supports their ability to integrate it into their
    assignment.
  • Provide support to assist teachers in integrating
    technology into the teaching-learning process.
  • Provide adequate funding for implementation of
    the technology plan.
  • Provide up to date hardware and software in
    classroom, office and lab settings.
  • Provide infrastructure which supports high speed
    internet, LANS and WANS.
  • Provide adequate technical support to keep
    systems running smoothly and efficiently.

3
Technology Integration
  • Staffing
  • Full-time equivalent (FTE) district-level
    technology director/coordinator
  • One FTE instructional technology teacher per
    40-80 staff
  • One FTE person dedicated to data management and
    assessment
  • Randolph has a part-time technology chairperson.
  • Three instructional technology teaching positions
at the elementary level and one at the middle
school level were eliminated in recent years.
  • There are two full time technicians who service
    hardware problems, install new equipment,
software and maintain network for the entire
district along with other non-technology duties.

4
Technology Professional Development
  • Sustained and ongoing, includes coaching,
    modeling best practices, district-based mentoring
and study groups, and includes concepts of
    universal design and scientifically based
    research models
  • In Randolph, professional development has been
inconsistent. High School math and science
teachers received training in various types of
programs related to the content they teach.
  • Teachers at all levels have had the opportunity
to receive training in word processing,
spreadsheets and other packages. Some training
has focused on digital cameras, digital
    camcorders, scanners and projection devices,
    webquests and telecommunications.
  • As many of these trainings were one-time
experiences, many teachers continue to feel
insecure about using material with their classes.

5
Accessibility of Technology
  • Students per Instructional Computer
  • Average ratio of 5 students per high-capacity,
    Internet-connected computer
  • Access to portable and/or handheld electronic
    devices appropriate to grade level
  • Replacement cycle of 6 years or less
  • Randolphs Secondary Level
  • All science classrooms have at least one computer
    with appropriate software
  • Courses in programming, computer technology,
spreadsheets, web design and music technology are
    available to students as electives
  • Randolphs Elementary Level
  • Majority of platforms in use are Macintosh
    machines, desktops and iBooks
  • Limited number of PCs are in use in a few
    schools
  • Elementary staff have access to equipment giving
    them multimedia capabilities
  • Wireless portable labs in each building have
    increased accessibility

6
Infrastructure for Connectivity
  • A. Internet Access
  • district provides connectivity to the Internet in
    all classrooms in all schools
  • district provides bandwidth of at least 10/100 MB
    to each classrooms
  • Randolph has current, internet accessible
    computers in all buildings.
  • Some classrooms need retrofitting to accommodate
the numbers and levels of technology hardware
needed. Power strips are often used to provide
power to computer stations, printers, monitors,
and laser disc players in rooms having only one
    or two outlets available.
  • Telephone lines are available in all classrooms
  • Building infrastructures have been upgraded to
allow access to telecommunications and networks.
  • The high school and administration buildings have
T1 lines and the middle and elementary schools
have cable access to the Internet.

7
Access to the Internet Outside the School Day
  • A. The district maintains an up-to-date web site
    that includes information for parents.
  • Randolph does have a web-site which is updated
regularly. It includes information for parents.
