• UMALUSIs Mandate

• According to the General and Further Education
  and Training Quality Assurance Act (GENFETQA) as
  amended (2008), Umalusi is mandated to
• Develop a sub-framework of qualifications for
  general and further education and training
• Develop policy and criteria for the registration
  of such qualifications on the NQF
• Issue directives for internal assessment to
  ensure reliability of assessment outcomes
• Develop policy for the accreditation of
  assessment bodies other than departments of
  education

• Develop policy and criteria for quality assurance
  of private education institutions
• Accredit assessment bodies in accordance with the
  regulations
• Perform the external moderation of assessment of
  all assessment bodies and education institutions
• Adjust raw marks during standardization
• Approve the publication of the results of
  learners
• Issue certificates to learners who have achieved
  qualifications

  training system, at a glance, and in context.
• need to be policy-relevant policy-friendly
  (timely and comprehensive)
• derived from a coherent and theoretically sound
  framework (defensible in terms of research)
• valid, reliable, and feasible to measure at
  reasonable cost.
• Learner achievement is generally considered to be
  a key indicator of educational quality and
  standards.
