Our Trip to Mexio
ByMichael and Jason
2
Mexico City
First we took a flight to Mexico City. Mexico
City is the capital of Mexico. There we went to
the famous Metropolitan cathedral. The
construction began in 1573. It took almost 300
years to complete the construction. We were lucky
to see a futbol (soccer) game. We had a great
time in Mexico city!
3
Veracrnz
Then we traveled west to Veracrnz. It was founded
by Spanish explorer Hernando Certes. Veracrnz
was a target for pirate raids or invasions.
Luckily, there was a rodeo in town. They call
their rodeos, Charrerias. Cowboys are called
Charros. We watched in amazement as a Charro
rolled a bull onto its back.
4
Oaxaca
Then we went SW to Oaxaca. It is known for its
famous Preservation. Oaxaca has a rich history
and customs. It is also home to the historic
people that are Mixtecs and Zapotec. They were
able to maintain languages and cultures. We had
a great time at Oaxaca.
5
Day at the Dead
A festival we went to was Day of the Dead. We
bought some costumes with Mexican Peso to go to
this festival. On the way there, we dropped
marigold petals to show the way for the spirits
and carried candles. We were dancing and singing
as they remember there love ones who have died.
There we ate candy skeletons, apples, oranges,
las tías-a chocolate sauce, with chicken. Other
families were eating tacos, cheese cascades,
tamales, salt and sugar canes. We had water to
drink, a symbol of the dead.
6
Homes
Most people live in the city. Every day hundreds
of people move into the city. Some times Mexico's
cities are so crowded there is no room for new
comers to live. People who live in the country
have houses made of adobe which is a type of
brick made out of mixing mud and straw. Homes in
Mexico are different then ours.
7
School in Mexico
Next we met a friend named Daniel. He told us
about his school. He told us that children start
school at four years old. They spend two years in
pre school and kindergarten to learn dancing,
singing and games which they will need when they
are older. When they turn six they start
elementary school. They learn the same stuff as
we do. We learned a lot from him.
8
The Zoo
Then we decided to go to the zoo. We saw lots of
animals like wolves, coyotes, jaguars, bears,
snakes, parrots, monkeys and lizards. They were
interesting to see. Then we went to the aquarium
part of the zoo, we saw a lot of whales. They
told us that they leave in the winter to go to
the warm waters. There they have their young.
That was very fun.
9
Back in New York
We had a really good time in Mexico. It was a
fantastic trip. We will miss Mexico. It had a lot
of sites but not as many as New York. We are
happy to be back in the U.S.A.
