First, there was E-Learning
E-Learning, online learning, e-training are all
ideas that support the creation and conversion of
paper-based and instructor-led courses into
electronic education in the form of audio,
video, web pages (HTML), portable document (PDF),
or any other digitally-converted and accessible
format. E-learnings benefits are generally
garnered through cost-savings to the Agency from
students not needing to travel to access the
education. The advantage from the students
perspective is that they dont have to travel to
access the education, and in most cases, can
access the training at convenient hours for them.

Then, there was GoLearn
Last year, GoLearn was created as a government
wide resource that supports development of the
Federal workforce through one-stop access to a
repository of education resources and services.
The site, managed by OPM, contains various
databases (db) with access to online courses
from various content vendors.

What is AgLearn?
The Agriculture Learning (AgLearn) Service is
USDAs Learning Management System. AgLearn
specifically addresses USDA employees learning
needs and organizes USDA agency specialized
training courses into a searchable catalogue. The
system will also house the training records of
each USDA employee and will include Individual
Development Planning.

Is AgLearn different than GoLearn?

AgLearn is different from GoLearn it uses
different Software making it look different.
AgLearn will provide more features for users such
as USDA specific content, student training
records, and reports. GoLearn supports general
learning needs of ALL Federal employees, while
AgLearn supports the specific needs of USDA
employees.

GoLearn - Agency Courses

In addition to hosting purchased content, AgLearn
will be a repository of courses that address
issues from Federally-mandated training, such as
sexual harassment, ethics and computer security.
These courses may be approved methods for
satisfying agency requirements for
Federally-mandated training. In the future,
content related to FSIS more technical focus may
be available.

ACCESS TO AGLEARN AT USDA
Phase One ( 7,000 USDA and DOI employees) is
underway. Feedback is being gathered and
adjustments will be made as needed to AgLearn.
Access to the rest of USDA will be
incrementally expanded to include all USDA
employees by the end of FY 2004.
