1Ø Equipment Serving 3Ø Lines
Using 1-phase units with different settings
option and defining No-Reg
  • Based on the flexibility to model unlike
    single-phase equipment in-line with three-phase
    line segments.
  • More commonly encountered where single-phase
equipment is mounted on consecutive poles instead
    of a platform.
  • Can be used to model regulators, capacitors,
    reclosers and fuses
  • No work-around is available for transformers

3
Custom Toolbar
Using to change phases quickly and to assign
equip to OH and UG
  • Select View Display Custom Toolbar from the
WindMil main menu to activate the toolbar.
  • Once the toolbar is activated, right-clicking on
the toolbar allows you to customize it with the
    following commands
  • Add New Button adds a blank button to the
    toolbar.
  • Remove Button deletes a button from the toolbar.
  • Edit Button allows you to choose what WindMil
function you want to associate with this button.
  • The custom toolbar can be docked or moved close
    to the action.
  • Change phasing
  • Assign equipment OH, UG, Devices, Construction
    types, and transformers. (digitizer equipment
    setup)

4
Multi-Parent Nodes
  • This allows single-phase and two-phase line
segments to be joined to create a three-phase
    segment.
  • More commonly used in underground subdivisions
where the multi-parent node could represent a
    terminating cabinet (elbow cabinet), or
    pad-mounted switch.
  • Can be used to join segments from different
    feeders.

5
Modeling Switchgear
6
Modeling Switchgear
Using a node and the insert before tool to
insert switches
  • Install a node (or small line segment) to
    represent the switchgear bus.
  • Use Insert Before to install a switch or fuse in
front of each tap exiting the switchgear.
  • Use Insert Before to install a switch or fuse
after the line segment serving the switchgear.

7
Selecting Elements
  • Right-click on element and select down-line
    elements or up-line elements
  • Global editor and filtering
  • Select elements without right-clicking by holding
    down left mouse key
  • Window

8
Global Editor
  • Selected Elements allow selection of displayed
    circuit elements
  • Filter Set allows selection set reduction based
    on circuit element characteristics, attributes,
    and settings.
  • Edit Set allows editing of element
    characteristics, settings, and attributes common
to all elements in the selected set.
  • Stored Sets allows selection sets to be stored
    and retrieved.

9
Global Editor
  • Query elements with common attributes to
  • Modify queried elements
  • Graphically display queried elements
  • To access, select Utilities Global Editor from
the menu bar or select the Global Edit button on
    the Utilities toolbar.
  • Find Replace
  • You can report results, selection sets, queries,
etc. using the WindMil custom reports tool.

Color By Custom
  • Color Gradient to show voltage drop or fault
    current results
  • Color by conductor
  • Dual system voltage colors
  • Load Growth
  • Can color by any field that you can query by in
    global editor

12
Quick Reports
  • In WindMil, you can use the drop down
Reports menu to print out or print to a text
file. Good for getting total distance of
selection set or total kVA on a circuit, etc

13
Zoom Levels
  • Set zoom levels, 1-0
  • Use Ctrl function on keyboard and press down any
    number to set zoom level
  • Zoom to any level by scrolling or using the zoom
    functions in WindMil
  • Another option is to use the zoom previous
    WindMil function
  • Double click on substation or feeder in work
    environment

14
Modeling Variations on ABC
  • Three-phase line segments can have a variety of
configurations ABC, ACB, BAC, BCA, CAB, and CBA
  • WindMil defines all three-phase line segments as
    ABC
  • No longer have to use Construction Type to
    change the configuration.
  • Note If Assume Transposition is selected,
WindMil will assume that line phases have been
rotated to avoid induction effects on long
stretches of line. Full transposition will result
in all mutual (off diagonal) impedances being
equal. If unselected, WindMil will need precise
information about the construction of the line.

15
Global Editor
Use the Flip and Rotate button in the element
navigator to change the phase configuration
16
Reporting Results
  • Voltage Drop and Fault Current results can be
exported from WindMil to create personalized
    reports.
  • Export files by selecting File Export Databases
from the main menu in WindMil.
  • Before exporting results
  • Verify that Save Calculated Data is enabled in
    the System Preferences
  • Voltage Drop and Fault Current analysis has
    been executed
  • Model has been Saved Closed

17
Reporting Results
  • In this example, the Voltage Drop and Fault
Current Results will be exported in ASCII format.
  • Note A description of the data available is
given in WindMil Help, under File Layouts.
  • Text files can be manipulated in Excel and Access
    to retrieve and filter results
