Welcome Back, Students!
  • Welcome, students, to your new TAKS Lab /
    Math-180 classroom!
  • This new program consists of different modules
    (lessons) that will be used in all TAKS Labs and
    Math-180 classes in the district.

Program Goals
  • To prepare you for success in the Exit Level
    Mathematics TAKS Test, or any TAKS Mathematics
    Test.
  • To make the learning and review process more
    enjoyable.
  • To make difficult-to-learn concepts easier to
    learn and understand.
  • Overallto help you succeed!

The TAKS Lab/Math-180 Modules
  • The programs Modules are lessons designed to be
    used in the 90 minutes in a period
  • 5-minute Lesson Introduction
  • 25-minute Activity A
  • 25-minute Activity B
  • 25-minute Activity C
  • 5-minute closing
  • The 25-minute activities will be done in groups.

Structure of the TAKS Lab / Math -180 Class
  • The classroom will be arranged with 3 different
    learning stations, in which the following
    activities will be conducted
  • Station A Teacher-Led Lesson
  • Station B Group Exploration
  • Station C Assessment

About the Stations
  • After the Lesson Introduction,
  • You will work in groups each group will start at
    one station (A, B, or C).
  • You will complete each of the three 25-minute
    activities (A, B, C) in the corresponding
    station.
  • Your group will rotate to the next station after
    the 25-minutes are up.
  • At the end of the period, your group will have
    completed three different activities.

Remember
  • Your group will start at one of the stations, A,
    B, or C.
  • Not all groups will start at Station A.
  • Order is not important what is important is that
    you will go to each station by the end of the
    period.

Station ATeacher-Led Lesson
  • This Activity is a mini-lesson conducted by your
    teacher. This lesson may consist of
  • TAKS Notes, in which you fill in blanks with
    definitions and important notes to remember and
    test-taking hints
  • Sample Problems that your teacher will explain in
    detail
  • Calculator Tips to help you use the TI-83 on TAKS
    problems

Station BGroup Exploration Activity
  • Your group will work together (with little or no
    teacher guidance) to complete this activity.
    This activity may consist of
  • A puzzle,
  • A riddle,
  • A hands-on activity,
  • A self-discovery activity, or
  • Other fun activity
  • to help you understand concepts and remember
    facts that will help you succeed on the TAKS
    Test.

Station CAssessment
  • In this station, you will individually complete
    an assessment (mini-quiz or mini-test) that will
    help you and your teacher know how you are
    progressing and which concepts you need more help
    with.
  • Other info
  • Each assessment will cover concepts from previous
    Modules.
  • You will be able to complete this assessment in
    25 minutes.
  • You will be able to use the calculator and the
    TAKS Formula Chart on the assessments.
  • NOTE In the Math-180 class, the assessment will
    be done on computer.

Notes about Station Activities
  • Keep ALL your activity sheets, notes sheets, and
    written assessments in a TAKS Notebook (folder or
    binder). This way, you can review them over and
    over from that day until you take the TAKS Test.
  • If you do not complete the activities during the
    25-minutes, be sure to complete them at home and
    place the sheets in your folder or binder.

  • Bring these with you every day
  • TAKS Notebookyour folder/binder with all
    handouts and a few sheets of blank paper
  • Pencils
  • TAKS Formula Chart (you will receive a copy of
    the new Chart soon)
  • You will be allowed to use the TI-83 calculator
    on every Module

TAKS Lab/Math-180Class Guidelines
  • To guarantee the best lesson possible to help you
    pass the TAKS Exam, you are asked to abide by
    these guidelines
  • Be punctual and responsible.
  • Be respectful to everyone in the classroom.
  • Bring your materials daily.
  • Participate in all group activities.
  • Remain with your group at all times.
  • Use the allotted time wisely. When time is up,
    clean your station quickly and move on to the
    next station.
  • And last, but not least

Give yourself a fair opportunity!
  • Try your best during all class activities
  • Ask questions when you have doubts
  • Complete all activities, even if you have to do
    this at home
  • Review the notes and activities at home daily,
    especially a few days before the test

  • There is a new TAKS Mathematics (Formula) Chart
    that all students will use when taking the test
    this year.
  • Your teacher will give you a copy of it.
  • Bring it with you EVERY DAY.
