• Our objective is to promote social integration of
  people with severely physically disabilities
  (people in wheelchair). We have six main
  services
• Adapted private housing
• Assistance in the activities of the daily life
  (ADL services)
• Accessibility
• Training and research
• Transport
• Information

1. Adapted private housing

• ANLH with social housing firms have built, in all
  Belgium (and more especially in Brussels and
  Walloon), about a hundred of social adapted
  houses with or without services of assistance in
  the activities of the daily life (ADL).
• ANLH publish regularly books with prescriptions,
  norms for adapted - accessible or adaptable
  house.

2. Service of Assistance in the activities of the
daily life (ADL)

• ObjectiveTo permit at people in wheelchair to
  have an independant live in a private and adapted
  house.
• PrincipeThere are ADL assistants who help
  disabled people for the activities of daily life.
  Disable people life in private and adapted house
  and when he needs help, he calls an assistant.
  The houses are mixed with houses for non disabled
  people.

• Profile of users
• To want an independant life
• To need daily help (minimum 7 hours by week)
• To be able to define and manage their needs
• To be within 18 and 65 years old
• To be a low income

• Help is individual and adapted for each users

3. Accessibility

• The ANLH is recognised by Brussels authority as a
  centre of expert advice in matters of
  accessibility. When Brussels authority receive an
  ask of permit to build and if its a public
  building, we have to check if accessibility norms
  are respected and if no, we have to say what is
  necessary to change.

  and evaluation on accessibility
• For several years the ANHL has published
  reference works on accessibility, not only for
  the Brussels and Walloon authorities, but at the
  European level. For examples"the City for All",
  "housing for all", and "public spaces for all".
  These publications are for specialist bodies
  (technical documents), and for the general
  public.

• DATABASE Accescity
• For disabled people, the accessibility is a real
  problem. Before to go in a place (at the
  restaurant for example), the person has to take
  information on ramp, lift, door,
• Accescity permit to know by Internet the
  accessibility of a building (for the moment, its
  only for Brussel - its the beginning).
  Architects on our association visit some
  buildings in Brussel, check accessibility and
  give information on the web site.
• Principe we give information and its the
  disabled people who check according to his
  difficulties if the building is accessible for
  him or not. With all information, the person take
  the decision to go or not, alone or with help,
• Disabled people is responsible of his life, we
  have not to decide for him

4. Training

• AAOUTILS Architecture and Accessibility Tools
  for training (finished february 2004)
• Its an European project with Leonardo Da Vinci
  programme
• Our partners French, Danmark and Poland
• Results a CD-ROM and a booklet of
  sensibilisation the aim is to give at
  architects, teachers and students in architecture
  all information on design for all in the cd-rom,
  there are explanations, drawings, pictures and
  films to show design for all in architecture,
  urban planning and transport.
• Design for all is a challenge and not an obstacle!

• Indicators of quality in social services
• Partners 3 search office from Austria, Greece
  and Danmark and 3 providers of service(for
  disabled people) Belgium, Portugal, Hungry
• Objectives to create and to test tools to
  evaluate the quality of a service. For ANLH, we
  test tools in 3 ADL services in Brussel and 3 in
  Walloon.
• This project permit to test the quality of our
  services and to improve the service given at
  disabled people
• Results publication of one guide to explain our
  experience and give all tools and methods used.
• Its a project of two years (up to end of 2005)

5. Transport

• ANLH works on accessibility of means of
  transportation. We have many project to adapt
  means of transport as underground (metro) in
  Brussels, Bus with ramp, tramway, train
  station,
• We have an architect who works in the transport
  society in Brussel to adapt all the subway lifts
  in all station of Brussel

6. Information

• Disabled people, professional of social sector,
  need information because in Belgium, there is not
  a centre of information, then ANLH put different
  tools in place
