3Students Statement of Projects
Project 1 An Exercise in Two-Dimensional Design
(Logo) My objective was to create a simple,
bold, abstract image that would be easily legible
and reproducible in a variety of applications,
and incorporating the 3 letters from my initials
C.J.H. The Presentation was drawn in Adobe
Illustrator printed with an inkjet
printer. Project 2 An Exercise in Two-Dimensional
Design (Geometric Shapes) The final arrangement
I chose for the 5 shapes incorporated the use of
positive and negative spaces generated through
overlapping and implied connections and colour to
generate eye movement through the composition
while providing a well balanced image. The Final
Presentation was hand drawn and coloured using
black and red inks. Project 3 An Exercise in
Three-Dimensional Design (Solids) By abstracting
the composition in Project 2, and incorporating
the given form of the Prism, the resulting
three-dimensional composition generates
interesting voids and forms that encourage eye
movement horizontally, vertically, around, and
through the composition.The Presentation
consists of shaped wood pieces, painted mounted
to specified board size. Project 4a An Exercise
in Two-Dimensional Abstract Thinking (Space) The
image I chose consisted of food on skewers
presented on a platter with a small contrasting
garnish. The final abstraction of the image
resulted in strong lines of force over a blue
plain providing contrast for the lines of force
and the red circle at the bottom of the
composition that helps to keep the viewers eye
within the composition. The Final Presentation
was hand drawn and coloured using black, blue and
red inks. Project 4b Abstract Conversion
(Model) Through the addition of volume to the
shapes in the composition of Project 4a, I have
maintained the compositional elements of the
image and generated additional points of
interest through the vertical nature of some of
the components.The Final Presentation consists
of interlocking shaped pieces of painted wood. Â
Project 5 Design of a Container The final form
I chose to house all of the projects consists of
a skin that is delicate in appearance and hints
at its contents, but provides more than adequate
protection from the elements. The skin is then
wrapped around a rigid internal skeleton that
provides protection for the presentation boards
while creating internal voids for the
three-dimensional projects. The case, while at
rest, is a simple form with a retractable handle
and hidden closures. The case converts to a
presentation easel while still allowing access to
the interior cavities. The skin is a heavy
translucent Mylar that is folded and machine
stitched for rigidity. The internal structure
consists of machined wood that has been painted
to provide better contrast with the projects it
houses. Â
