SELECTION OF LOCATION AND TARGET GROUP FOR
HOUSING
Under the guidance of the Minister, Ministry of
Power Energy Hon.Mahindananda Aluthgamage the
proposed land and the list of beneficiaries were
identified.
This has been done through a series of
ministry and field level discussions and
workshops.

TARGET GROUP
This is a mixture of various ethnic groups
representing the lower middle income category.
Selection criteria was the beneficiary families
has to show there interest and pre-preparedness
for the construction of their house by way of
sharing financial and other resources.

THE LAND
The proposed land is a part of abandoned tea
estate in Ulapone area at Nawalapititya
Development clearance from the National Building
Research Organization (NBRO) has been obtained
for the land.

THE LAYOUT

• Layout plan for the housing plots has been
  prepared by the Department of Survey, Kandy
  according to the NBRO guidelines.

PRESENT PROGRESS

• All 100 houses were covered with roofs and
  finishes in progress.
• Home gardening activities in progress with the
  relevant institutions under the guidance of Div.
  Secretary (Ganga Ihala Korele).
• Soil conservation and composting is being done by
  the beneficiary families.
• External Electricity wiring has been done
• Internal roads, culverts and drains are being
  done by RDA.
• Initial planning for provision of water is being
  done by the NWSDB
