Olivia is a bright and outgoing post-16 learner
who cant wait to get started on the Advanced

achieved an excellent set of GCSE results and is
producing excellent work on her Diploma.
Olivia's real passion is fashion. She reads all
the latest trendy magazines and never misses any
of the style shows on TV. Olivia is hoping that
doing well on the Diploma will help her gain
employment in the fashion industry, either as a
designer or working in some capacity with

Extended Project
Olivia spent her work experience at a company
which manufactured industrial workwear. She
started in the procurement department, sourcing
materials. This was followed by a spell in the
warehouse where Olivia helped with stock control,
signing in consignments of materials and logging
them onto the computerised system. Olivias final
week started on the factory floor. Under
supervision, she programmed one of the production
machines
and then watched 500 pairs of PVC gloves appear
at the other end! She finished in the sales
department, where she learnt a great deal about
how they marketed their range of products. She
proof read a new catalogue they were producing
for their high visibility workwear and uploaded
the graphics to support this line on the
companys website.
Olivia decided to plan her own range of fashion
clothing and produce a business plan to sell them
via the most suitable medium. She interviewed
some potential customers and asked a series of
questions about where they currently bought their
clothes and what issues they faced. Olivia then
analysed what was available at present,
evaluating the most popular outlets and their
ranges. Olivia finally drafted her designs,
costing the purchase of the relevant textiles and
estimating how much items would cost if produced
by hand. Olivias research indicated that many of
her potential clients would prefer to buy their
clothing via the internet, so she produced a
business plan to establish an on-line outlet.
Olivia enjoyed the project as it gave her the
opportunity to combine aspects of the Diploma
with the ASL she was studying as well, in a real
life setting.
