Online Training Requirements
December2006
  • District testing coordinators are responsible for
    working with other district and campus personnel
    to see that appropriate numbers of raters are
    designated and trained. They will need to closely
    monitor online training completion.
  • Raters who dont complete required online
    refresher training or online qualification
    activities are not authorized by TEA to be TOP
    raters.

End Dates for Refresher Courses

  • Raters should complete their refresher courses by
    the scheduled dates.
  • The refresher courses will, however, be available
    until March 30. Raters may wish to refer back to
    the course information and practice collections
    as they rate their students.
  • Note that the spring qualification window will
    close March 2.

  • The TOP online courses and qualification
    activities are found at the TOP TrainingCenter at
    http//pearson.learn.com/TOP/. The website will
    be active as of December 11, 2006.
  • The TOP TrainingCenter uses LMS software that has
    web-based, interactive training and data
    management capabilities.
  • From now on, TOP training and qualifying
    information will be located at the TOP
    TrainingCenter.

  • Registration is required for anyone who has not
    previously registered on the TOP or TAKS-Alt
    TrainingCenter. The user will receive a
    confirmation e-mail, but the e-mail is not
    required to proceed with training.
  • Users will not need to register each time they
    take a different course.
  • Individuals taking the courses will not need
    access codes. However, a LearnCenter Password is
    required the first time. This is a generic
    password that testing coordinators will issue.

Raters performance on the online refresher
courses and qualification activities will be
tracked through the LMS. Testing coordinators and
other authorized personnel will have access to
this information to ensure that raters are
adequately trained.

    It explains everything users need to know to
    access the courses, get support, and use the
    features of the website.
  • It is important for course participants to refer
    to the users guide during their courses.

    take the courses. They should be sure to make
    clear to trainees what courses to take and what
    the course timelines are.
  • For the Level 1 and Level 2 courses, be sure

  • The users guide for the spring online rater
    qualification activities will be available by

    guides prior to TOP administration training.

  • This administrators guide will be available at

  • An e-mail notification will be sent to ESC and
    district testing coordinators. The notification
    will include user ID and password information for
    administrators.
  • User ID and password information will be provided
    for 3 administrators at each site (i.e., 3 region
    administrators, 3 district administrators, 3
    campus administrators).

  • District coordinators will forward the campus
    administrator information to the campuses.
  • Administrators will be able to access reports to
    help them monitor TOP online training. Rosters
    and summary reports will be available.
  • The rosters will list users who have registered,
    their course completion status, and their results
    on the course activities. This will enable
    testing personnel to ensure that everyone
    completes the online training requirements and is
    adequately trained.

Users Guide for Administrators Who Monitor
Training

  • Level 1 course participants are to receive
    supplemental face-to-face training if their
    results indicate the need for additional
    practice.
  • Administrators can also provide additional
    resources to Level 2 and K-1 course participants
    based on their results to ensure they are
    adequately prepared to rate students.
  • Remember that raters who dont complete required
    online training requirements are not authorized
    by TEA to be TOP raters.

Assembling and Verifying TOP Writing Collections
December2006
  • An online course has been developed for districts
    to use as an optional tool if desired. It is now
    available on the TOP TrainingCenter website.
  • This course may be used in training campus
    coordinators, campus principals, TOP raters, and
    writing collection verifiers. The course takes
    less than 1 hour to complete and gives 1 hour of
    continuing education credit.
  • This course may be used as part, but not all, of
    writing collection assembly training.
