GGK Presentations
Gayle Johnson, Gillian Taylor and
Kerry Nelson
2 Art and Design became statutory in 1989 due to
the NI Reform Order. This ensured that Art and
Design be recognised as a main subject. The
Programme of Study came about to ensure all
pupils have the relevant Key Experiences in Art
and Design and were provided with equal access to
a broad and balanced curriculum. The Programme
of Study has become a national strategy and acts
as an invaluable guideline for teachers.

11What are CCTs?
Cross curricular themes must be incorporated into
each subject. They deal with the spiritual,
moral, intellectual, physical, social and
emotional aspects of a childs development.
