Conventional vs. Green Cleaners

• Conventional Cleaners
• Synthetic, petroleum-based surfactants and
  solvents
• Increasingly specialized and powerful.
• Emit large doses of volatile organic compounds
  (VOCs) and contribute to smog.
• Many are eye and skin irritants, while others are
  lung damaging and contribute to an increased
  occurrence of asthmatic attacks.

• Green Cleaners
• based on a variety of plant-derived surfactants
  and solvents
• non-toxic, non-carcinogenic, readily
  biodegradable, and reduce resource use.
• Required by standards not to
• Be Combustible
• Contain more than 0.5 by weight of total
  phosphorus to prevent eutrophication
• Be toxic to aquatic life, or include ozone
  depleting compounds and heavy metals.
• contain fragrances

• For janitorial cleaning products Green Seal
  certified products       
• Paper will no longer be used as a cleaning tool.
  Microfiber cloths and mops will replace other
  disposable cleaning tools.
• Entrance matting systems will be reviewed.
• All vacuums will meet or exceed ALA and CRI
• The use of a disinfectant will be eliminated or
  minimized.
• Automatic Aerosol Deodorizers are prohibited
• When possible, do not seal or finish floors
• Paper products should be selected based on
  recycled content, whitening process, packaging
  and dispensing options.
• Plastic bags should be 100 regrind Low Density
  Polyethylene (LDPE) and have at least 60
  post-consumer recycled plastic.
