• To reveal His divinity to us
• So that we may know the Fathers love
• To reveal our humanity to us
• To provide a model of holiness
• To redeem us from sin
• To bridge the infinite gap between God and man
• To unite us with God
• To divinize us

• Jesus proclaims release of the captives.
• Term everyone would have been familiar with.

• Gospel will be proclaimed when the Messiah
  (Anointed One) proclaims the Jubilee Year.

• Context Exodus 121-28
• Israel has been in slavery for about 500 years.
• They were in exile - Egypt was not their land.
• The Jubilee Year was specific law Moses gave the
  Israelites after they were set free from Egyptian
  slavery in the Exodus
• Remind Israel of Gods Covenant
• Help free Israel from their worldly attachments /
  desires
