HARRASSMENT
- PURPOSE To provide a comprehensive Department
of the Navy policy for all personnel on the
identification, prevention, elimination of sexual
harassment and to establish regulations to
enforce policy.

- The economic costs of sexual harassment are
significant. - Sexual harassment is prohibited! ZERO TOLERANCE!

- All DON Personnel will educated and trained upon
accession (within 90 days) and annually
thereafter. - Individuals who believe they have been sexually
harassed shall be provided the opportunity to
seek resolution and redress.

- All reported incidents of sexual harassment
shall be investigated and resolved at the lowest
level. -

- Supervisors should not condone it.

- Military personnel of the Navy and Marine Corps
shall be processed for administrative separation
on the FIRST substantiated incident of sexual
harassment. - Action, threats or attempts to influence
anothers career or job in exchange for sexual
favors. - Rewards in exchange for sexual favors.
- Physical contact of a sexual nature, if charged
under the UCMJ.

- Leadership is the key to eliminating all forms
of unlawful discrimination. - Education and training programs are in place at
all levels within the DON.

progress in eliminating sexual harassment and to

unfavorable personnel action. - SEXUAL HARASSMENT A form of sex discrimination
that involves unwelcome sexual advances, requests
for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical
conduct of a sexual nature. -

- For a persons behavior to be considered sexual
harassment, it must meet three criteria BE
UNWELCOME, SEXUAL IN NATURE, AND OCCUR OR IMPACT
ON THE WORK ENVIRONMENT. -

- UNWELCOME BEHAVIOR
- Behavior that a person does not ask for and which
that person considers undesirable or offensive. -

- SEXUAL IN NATURE
- Behavior which is sexual in nature is fairly easy
to determine. Sexually explicit jokes, sexually
suggestive pictures and talking about sex. -

to or rejecting unwelcome sexual behavior, they
have been subjected to a type of sexual

- RANGE OF BEHAVIORS
- To better explain the range of behaviors that
may constitute sexual harassment, the traffic
light illustration was developed. Behaviors are
divide into three zones.

- GREEN(GO) Not sexual harassment.
- YELLOW(CAUTION) Many people find this behavior
unacceptable and they could be sexual harassment. - RED(STOP) ALWAYS considered sexual harassment.
