• University-Industry Demonstration Partnership
  (UIDP) beta test new processes, solutions to
  corporate-sponsored university research

Current Projects

• Partnerships for Emerging Research Institutions
  Examine methods of sharing administrative
  resources between large and small institutions,
  or between a pool of small institutions
• Faculty at small institutions have to do their
  own payroll accounting, develop/sign forms
  certifications, dont have access to journals,
  typically have no relief from teaching to do
  research. Their institutions often cannot accept
  complex grants (e.g., with compliance
  requirements) or contracts at all, even if the PI
  is successful in getting an award.

Current Projects

• Many solutions in which economies of scale can
  be realized (e.g., buying journals as a state
  block paying for a roving compliance expert to
  be shared among multiple institutions, setting
  up regional processing centers for grants. . .)
• Workshop, to be held sometime in 2007, will
  examine these possibilities and issue a National
  Academies report.
• Meanwhile, FDP ERI group is looking at the
  possibility of demonstrations. (see Robert
  Barnhill Marigold Linton talk at 345 pm)
