Introduction of Project

• Leisure industry 4,319M in 2002 from sales of
  sports goods in the UK
• Equipment accounting for 25 of this revenue
• Huge market for developing the equipment to
  recreational professional athletes
• Hockey is just one of these markets high demand
  for quality PPE
• Problem Statement
• Athletes are stronger, faster more skilled
  within their sports
• Technology is rapidly developing
• PPE must equal this rate of development or people
  at the sharp end are being placed at greater risk
  of injury

What are we going to do about it?

• Identify where there are user technological
  opportunities barriers to develop more
  effective PPE
• Identify a range of possible future materials
  design changes that can be implemented
• Identify the opportunities for knowledge transfer
  between hockey, other sports other non-sports
  sectors
• The project team will be based on collaboration
  between the Ergonomics Safety Research
  Institute (ESRI), The Sports Technologies
  Research Centre , both based at Loughborough
  University and PS03 Ltd
