• Determine pregnancy by palpating a simulated cow.
• Determine the stages of pregnancy through
  palpation.

Palpation

• Before palpation begins, it is necessary to
  identify and properly restrain the cow.
• Perform the palpation with care.
• The covered, lubricated hand should be shaped
  into a wedge before inserting into the rectum.

Palpation

• Allow the muscle contractions to subside before
  proceeding further.
• Then as the hand moves through the anus, it
  should be formed into a fist to push aside fecal
  material straighten the folds of the rectum.

• The palpator should locate the pelvic ridge to
  begin the detection of pregnancy.
• After the palpator has assessed his/her findings
  they can now make the diagnosis of pregnancy.
