Mental health is considered taboo in Indian
culture. When anyone is suffering from a mental
disorder, we usually dont get positive and
supportive feedback from our surroundings.
Further, when there is no pillar behind the
victims, their condition grows and becomes worse
with time. There are cases where we have
witnessed suicides and deaths. This mental health
disorder is common among teenagers and young
adults. As one grows, he/she is burdened by ample
responsibilities whether he/she is ready to bear
them or not. Its a stereotype. Change is
required. Essentially, if these things are taken
care of from the very beginning, that is, when a
child is not even a teenager, things will be
sorted and clear ahead. In every aspect of life,
we learn new things eventually, but no one
teaches us about how to tackle pressure, burden,
responsibilities, and unwanted stress. CBSE
Schools in Dehradun believe that schools play a
major role in a childs overall learning of
day-to-day lifestyle. If mental health is also
collated in the lists of learning and
understanding, it wont be a matter of
situational awkwardness anymore.

LETS LOOK INTO SOME WAYS THROUGH WHICH WE CAN
HELP THE YOUNGSTERS TO COMBAT MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES

4
DEPLOY HEALTH SUPPORT
Students should get full mental health support
through psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses,
counselors, social workers, etc. Schools should
deploy a team of mental health experts, and
students should be made comfortable to speak to
them at any point of time they feel like.

INFORM AND EDUCATE
Students grow up with the habits that they are
taught in childhood. They follow what they have
known from the start. It is very important to
teach the right things to the students,
especially the taboos of society. Clarify
everything, every concept of mental health
disorders. Tell them to help their companions in
the best way they can.

6
ENCOURAGE SOCIALNESS
Spare some time other than the curriculum for
peers to socialize with each other. Ask them to
work together on some challenging and problematic
situations. Interaction among children of the
same age groups escalates the minds thought
process, keeps them engaged, and decreases the
chance of thinking about stress and tensions.

7
NECESSITATE INVOLVEMENT
Ensure that each student is involved in some of
the other extracurricular activities. Not every
student can excel in the same activities.
Therefore, make sure that every talent is valued
equally, and no one is criticized for their
choices. Preferably, this can trigger a sense of
competitiveness among students if rewarded and
consolidated for everything they do.

8
FAVORABLE ENVIRONMENT
Just reinforcing extra curriculum and effective
communication wont help unless a child gets a
suitable environment. A mental health victims
point of view is not the same as a normal person.
Ergo, it is vital that a student feels secure in
every corner of the premises and not just in
front of the aid team. Teachers should keep an
account if any student is under mental stress for
any reason and give their best to bring them back
at ease.

PROMOTE PHYSICAL HEALTH
It needs no evidence that fitness is the key to a
healthy lifestyle. This we have practiced and
preached for ages. According to Boarding Schools
in Dehradun, Students should be trained to
inculcate the habit of keeping themselves fit. It
can be done through many ways such as sports
activities, regular workouts, yoga, gyms, and
most prominently, following a healthy diet.
Obviously, this sounds a little old-age routine,
but keeping up with this will contribute heavily
to fighting mental health troubles as well.
Students can make a timetable or schedule their
diet plans for every week. With this, they can
enjoy a variety of fast food once or twice a week.

AWARENESS IN PARENTS
At the end of the day, a student is a child.
He/she returns home with a bag full of new
experiences, good and bad both. On that account,
its a parents duty to ask them about their day.
Maybe they dont want to share or dont want to
talk. Such an understanding must be created that
a child himself talks about his issues and
happiness either. At home, also an atmosphere is
must where a child feels free to talk about
anything without the insecurity of criticism and
comparison.

SEMINARS AND WEBINARS
Schools should organize seminars and webinars on
mental health and let everyone, including
parents, teachers, and students, attend them. At
times listening to such things can influence the
minds.
