    development financial institution in Arizona.
    The mission is to foster communities of
    opportunity through financial products, business
    services and community development programs that
    empower minorities, and low-income families,
    particularly women and youth, to build and
    sustain their quality of life.

The Border Pact Program
  • This project begins to initiate micro enterprise
    development strategies for the betterment of the
    communities of San Luis Rio Colorado, Nogales and
    Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico, linking them to U.S.
    based micro enterprise programs across the border
    in Arizona.
  • A series of technical and mentoring workshops
    were scheduled and conducted on the Mexican side
    of the border.

Border Pact Grant ProgramCONAHEC
  • PPEP Micro Business has accepted a 12,000 grant
    from CONAHEC
  • CONAHEC is a tri-national consortium advancing
    collaboration, cooperation and community building
    among higher education institutions in North
    America.

Benefits of these Binational Microenterprise
Workshops
  • The workshops provided technology in how to
    establish and support micro enterprise
    development projects along the U.S./Mexican
    border communities.
  • Ongoing mentoring, training and technical
    assistance activities across the border.
  • Opening avenues of credit access for border
    region micro business development will provide
    opportunities for selected low-income families to
    sell their products/wares utilizing the internet.

  • January 24, 2002 A meeting was held in Douglas,
    Arizona with the Border Board from Agua Prieta
    and Douglas.
  • January 25, 2002 Second Binational Conference
    for the Microbusiness Border in Nogales, Sonora,
    Mexico.
  • On March 23, 2002 Meeting in San Luis Rio
    Colorado, Mexico. Purpose accomplish activities
    to foster business.

Objective of the Meeting
  • Setting dates for future workshops are taking
    place in each community on the Mexican border.
  • Planning the program of activities and location
    where they should take place
  • Discussion of strategies involving stakeholders
    were invited to the border meetings.

Second Binational Conference for the
Microbusiness Border
  • This binational conference is the second such
    meeting where a Binational Microbusiness Steering
    Committee convened to promote Microbusiness on
    both sides of the border. The first such meeting
    in Ciudad Obregon was convened in May of 1999.
    The purpose of this years meeting committee was
    to begin the process of organizing a non-profit
    organization to provide access to credit,
    mentoring and commercialization of the
    microbusiness borders of Sonora and Arizona. In
    addition, the legal development of the
    contemplated institution and the future planning.
