Title: The Furniture
1The Furniture
2Multicoloured curvilinear shapes fuse with
fashion to create fantastical furniture that is
decidedly Furnique. Artist Michael J. Russo
coined the term to describe his unique,
functional designs.
3Russo's studies in biology at Lemoyne College in
Syracuse, NY and his enduring interest in botany
are important influences on the design of his
fully functional furniture and home décor.
4The artist has a passion for infusing daily
objects with a life of their own. This aspect of
Russo's style is reflected in every room he
designs and every piece of Furnique that he
creates.
5Russo's versatility and virtuosity are evidenced
in the architecture, furnishings, gardens and
décor of all four his homes These surreal
sanctuaries serve as outlets for his passion and
devotion to art.
6Russo's environmentally sensitive style
transforms used materials into conversation
pieces infused with whimsy and a nostalgia for
all that is Art Nouveau.
7"A chair that's just a chair is not enough. It
has to do something else," commented Russo in a
New York Times interview. The designer has
perfected the art of combining aesthetics and
sculpture in order to create furniture that
combines his signature style with comfort and
functionality.
8Russos sly use of colour and motif lend his
furniture exceptional design characteristics,
style and purpose - Not unlike some of the chairs
designed by prominent designer Philippe Starck.
