The jewellery world is exceptionally magical and
the most shining star of this world is Diamond.
Even the smallest piece of this stone dazzles
amazingly. Though they all look almost similar,
however, they are very different from each other.
They are not even created equally. Based on
various parameters, they have been classified
into various categories by gemologists. The best
diamonds while buying jewellery are the ones
that offer great cut, colour, clarity and
colour. These characteristics are known as the
4Cs of diamonds. The best diamond jewellery is
manufactured by Kundan Lal Sons.

Chemical Composition
Diamonds are carbon compounds made up of pure
carbon but often are found with few traces of
nitrogen as well as boron. These mixtures are a
part of the natural formation of diamonds.
However, in some jewellery designs, they have
also been added artificially. If we look at
these trace elements scientifically, then these
mixtures and traces are just considered as
optical defects or lattice defects. The presence
or absence of these lattices has a significant
impact on the gemstones as well. This is from
where the classification of diamond originates
further.
5
Classification of Diamonds-
There are two ways of classifying diamonds,
namely the consumer way and the other is the
technical way. Let's first understand the
consumer way. As per the consumer way, the
diamond can be classified as Natural Diamond,
Treated Diamond, Man- Made diamond and Natural
Coloured Diamond.
6
Natural Diamond- As we all know that diamonds
are naturally occurring white colourless
substances found in the earth crust. Treated
Diamond- These are the more developed and more
enhanced versions of the normal diamonds. Thanks
to the technology used in the jewellery
industry, their attributes can be significantly
modified by using various treatments. Some of
the most common treatments used are colour
enhancement and filling. These treatments are
mainly performed for those diamonds that cannot
be sold otherwise. This also causes a reduction
in the pricing. Man-made diamonds- These kinds
of diamonds are also termed lab-developed
diamonds. These kinds of diamonds have become
very trendy these days. Currently, they are very
cheap as compared to man- made diamonds and will
be cheaper in the coming years.

Technical Classification of Diamonds
As a customer you need, to know which the best
diamond for your purchase is. As mentioned above
the presence of traces in diamonds can
significantly change the overall pricing. As per
the technical classification, the diamonds can
be classified as Type 1a, Type 2a, Type 1b, and
Type 2b.
8
Technical Classification of Diamonds
Type 1a-
Type 1b- Diamonds under this category are also
rare. They are found in yellow, brown and
orange colours as they absorb blue wavelengths
of visible light.
Type 2a- This is the rarest collection of
diamonds which is hard to find but at the same
time is highly preferred by collectors and
investors. This category of diamonds come with
negligible or no impurities at all.
Type 2b-
This particular category of diamond emits a
yellowish tint. This is because, in the centre
of the diamond lattice, nitrogen is present.
Diamonds classified under this category exist
with no nitrogen atoms within them. These types
of diamonds are also very rare and valuable.
These types of diamonds are the conductor of
electricity.
