• This hat was durable and waterproof that made it
  popular during those times

• Beaver fur
• There are two kinds of beaver furs the short and
  the coarse layer
• The fur of a young beaver was popular because of
  its soft and thick hairs
• The Hats were made in Europe but they could only
  get the furs in North America.

How did it assist the fur trade?

• In 1500s beavers became extinct in Europe, so
  the fur traders moved to North America
• The demand for beaver hats in the 18th century
  and in the 19th century caused the fur trade to
  boom
• Fur traders came to North America to trade for
  furs just to make beaver hats

• No, it is not part of our fashion today
• The style only lasted in 19th century, when silk
  became popular in hat making
