Northern and Southern Hemispheres

• The hemispheres are divided by the equator.
• The word hemisphere comes from the Greek word
  hemi.

Eastern and Western Hemispheres

• The hemispheres are divided by the Prime
  Meridian.
• The Prime Meridian is the imaginary line that
  runs North and South.

Longitude and Latitude

• Longitude are lines that run parallel with the
  Prime Meridian.
• Latitude are lines that run parallel with the
  equator.

What maps do

• A road map shows roads how far they go, where
  they connect, etc..
• A political map shows the boundaries between
  states.
• A weather map shows the weather.
• A physical map shows mountains, hills, etc..

you could go to http//www.mapquest.com/ type
in a city and find out.
If you want to know the weather, go to
http//weather.yahoo.com/ You can find out the
weather all around the world at this site.

Projections

• Map projections are attempts to put a portion of
  the earth on a flat surface.
• Some examples of the kinds of projections there
  are, are GPSs, Geodetic Datum's, and Coordinate
  Systems.
